ok.. there is a flock of women on gs who are pregnant (including me)…and will soon give birth, or have just.
so i thought, why not start a thread on websites, info on stores, and anything and everything about mama and baby.. clothes, strollers, cribs, nursery decoration, feeding, travelling gear.. etc etc…
cmon girls.. share what u guys did, or are planning on doing..
somegroovychick, i know this thread will keep u enteratained for hours
From what i have heard on another website, baby bargains is a good book. They have a website with forums on it babybargains.com to get some input on products. I want to get only the important stuff since at the moment we dont have alot of space and i dont want to buy anything and not use it much. Also, our extra bed room is currently a guest room plus home office so there is no space for baby’s crib in there. So i think i will appreicate the baby in my room during the first few months with night feedings and changings etc.
So far i have really liked this bouncer which i am told is a must have for the begining months if you want to grab a bite to eat or take a shower. Amazon.com: Fisher-Price Rainforest Bouncer: Baby
ira.. a friend of mine has the first one and she loves it... ive seen it at her place and i loved it aswell.. her baby sleeps in it most of the day and he is 2 months.. she just moves it to wherever she is working in the home and the play things attatched to the seat are very entertaining for the baby...
Ira they even baby to toddler ones, that changes as your baby grows, so they can use it from like newborn till 2 years, like fisher Price infant-to-toddler %between%
Evenflo feeders worked out great for my son, but one bit of advice is do NOT buy a big feeding set upfront. I know they have those 20-25 pc avent feeding sets that have like 5 bottles etc... reason being you don't know what will suit your child. I went thru quite a few brands and Evenflo Comfi was the only one he really took to easily.
I also recommend travel system stroller/carseat combo if you plan to drive around a lot with your little one in the beginning. You can easily pull sleeping baby out of the car & into someone's home/restaurant and baby has his own place to sleep :)
^ i so wanted one of those Afro-sheen.. however, they only last 6 months and u need to get another carseat after that
here though, the council provides carseats which u can pull out and take inside if bubz is asleep.. u pay like $69 for it and then return it once ur done with it... next time, i shall be doing that (Inshallah)
dont buy too many thinks in advance. when my SIL was preg we purchased everypossible thing for the baby before his birth. but due to complications he had to stay in hospital alot. , he was one months old when he came home from hosp and than continusously in and out, and everyone was so sad. SIL used to look at his stuff and cry. it was so sad.
i am not planning to buy things in advance just the important ones like car seat, pram and bed.
sadzz, which country are you in.
I am in aus, I used to be big fan of Baby Galore and Baby CO. they are so expensive but now they are gone down.
Toys R us have good nursery stuff.
and dont buy too many bottles. there are so many different varities out there. only when baby is born you will know what suits him/her better.
need alot of knowledge when purchasing bottles (i have learnt from my SIL’s experience).
but i have plan to buy bassinet for first few months, i have selected yellow:
the carseat that u can take outta the car is still quite expensive.. i think about $200 something.. and is only used uptil they are 6 months... the cheaper and more afforable option is to ask the council for one of those... they are cheap, light and easy to carry around... next time im gonna get one of those
We didnt actually buy a lot of things for my daughter.. my SIL had a baby 4 months prior to me and so we trialled everything with her hehe..

we have everything from my nephew as well but my hubby wants to buy everything new.
look for deals at toysrus. they do have really good deals. and you can save alot.
what you mean by ask council? does the council provides car seats?
We are not getting a bedding set since we are buying a cosleeper first and the quilt doesnt get used anyways (hazardous to keep in the crib etc) but if i were i would have gone with this one in a heart beat for a girl.
We also put a bunch of stuff on our baby registry this weekend. I kind of feel awkward doing that but my friends have requested i do it.

Well it depends on the size & weight of the baby. They have some convertible car seats now too that go up to a higher weight...like 25-35 lbs i believe so your child can stay in rear facing longer, which is safer.
But i guess it depends on the company etc. I was able to use mine for about a year or so.
my friends have the peg perego uno- that thing is amazing! the seat fully reclines into a bassinet for younger babies, so no need to get a separate one. and the peg perego car seat latches on to the stroller too, so you don’t have to worry about waking up a sleeping baby or unstrapping/restrapping them. then when the baby’s old enough, you can just seat them directly into the stroller. its got great features, very lightweight and easy to push, and the handle flips direction, so baby can face you, or outwards, without having to physically reposition the seat.
I'm working with 7-8 other dads in the area who are friends of ours to start a new daddy's guide to being a helpful, contributing dad and also how to deal with all that comes along with being a dad. Currently, we meet every Friday for lunch, it's really more of a support group but also a platform for sharing ideas and such about your kids but more from a dad/fun perspective. Soon we'll have some online resources and I'll add that here.
i'm a way off from having kids yet but one thing i have been curious about for ages are cloth diapers.
does anyone use them? would you use them?
i think it's pretty scary thinking about how many disposable diaper's will end up in a landfill in just the first year of your child's life, so i would seriously consider it.
