skin of evil is a highlight for me too, not because of the episode (which i found a tad askew on the lame side) but for all the wrong reasons :-D
i thought that the tng finale was a worthy finale too.
anyone watching enterprise? i know i know, its not quite the same league, but its star trek !
they have one or two really top notch episodes under their belt. my personal favourite would have to be the Borg one.. simply because of how they made the seemingly impossible task of bringing them into the storyline so natural and almost.. necessary.
All good things was an amazing finale..Ds9 is good..but the story line is very complex..I think in the long run DS9 will be considered the best story driven ST series.
ENterprise doesn't really get my attention the same way other shows do..it's best is ususally barely above average.
ds9 is good? i guess i've only watched half a season or so so i might have caught a bad patch (i was watching when the "prophecies" were beginnnig). plus i hated that sisqo guy :-..
enterprise is yeah.. usually pretty ordinary and they've made a mess of a very promising storyline. might be shelved after this season :-\ .
Ravage, what happened in Enterpise’s Borg encounter? (Sorry…I flip channels whenever Enterpise is on). My question is how come TNG crew was first to see Borg if this present Enterprise has already met them. Didn’t they catalogue them or something or was it a brain washing thing afterwards?
As far as DS9 is concerned, simply put: ‘..to seek out new life and new civilizations ….where no man has gone before…’ mantra was completely forgotten and we had DS9 crew acting as stationary peace keepers between stupid Cardassains and stupid Bajorans. Still way better than current Enterprise.
Tribbles episode was one of my favorite in DS9. It’s when they go back in time to original Enterprise. It was edited so brilliantly that Kirk actually scolds Chief O’ Brian and ends up having a casual conversation with Sisko.
Ravage- Moriarity leaves the holodeck (or thinks he left the holodeck) in the follow-up episode I mentioned. He was actually in a shrewdly fashioned "holodeck within a holodeck" however that was constructed with a lifetime of experiences so that he never would be the wiser.
Zakk- The Q initiated Borg-Enterprise meeting is also one of my favorite episodes. The fear the crew felt in the moment they realized the Borg cube was "healing itself" as it was chasing them at over warp 9 was palpable. I also agree that the TNG finale was very good. Have you ever noticed the significant mistake that exists in the plotline of the climax?
As far as the other spinoffs are concerned, I actually like Voyager much more so than either DS9 (which I hardly ever watched) or Enterprise. Voyager had several likeable characters including the Doctor, Tuvac, and 7 of 9, the Captain was OK but a little too emotional in my view.
I try to like Enterprise but it's hard for some reason. I did catch the Borg episode and found it completely implausible. If the Borg had encountered humankind earlier, as Enterprise suggested, then they would have been toast. There's no doubt that once the Borg knew of their existence they wouldn't have relented until they "added the human's distinctiveness and individuality to their own". That's their thing.
Nadia- It's nice to see that there's something I enjoy discussing with you for a change :)
I am a sucker for time paradox episodes so yesterdays enterprise is another favourite..Ds9’s first three seasons aren’t particularly interesting but after that it’s amazing!
I had very high hopes for Voyager and some of the first two season episodes were real good..(personal Voyager favourite Scorpion) but it just lost the plot later on.
Zakk- The plot fault in the TNG finale is a pretty significant one as far as I'm concerned. It's fairly complex, but let me try to explain:
First off, as a refresher, the "enemy" in the episode was the expanding mass of anti-time that, going backwards in time, ultimately grew large enough to prevent the formation of life on earth.
Towards the end of the show Piccard discovered that the anti-time mass was actually created by the three Enterprises all directing a tachion "probe" beam at the same coordinates in space in the different time periods (past, present and future). I think it ruptured the time-space continuum or something like that (that's another of my favorite buzz-words I forgot to mention earlier btw)
The plot fault lies in the events leading up to that discovery in the future timeline. If you'll remember, the mentally unstable future Piccard was on a quest to visit the specific coordinates where the anti-time was first formed, though he didn't know (and hence couldn'tcoherently explain) why. After many trials and tribulations, they finally got to the location only to find that nothing was there. At this point everyone just concluded that Piccard had, in fact, lost his marbles and they left. As they were leaving the neutral zone, Piccard had some sort of minor epiphany thogh and managed to explain what he thinks happened and the theory makes sense to the "future data".
So, they return to the coordinates and discover that the anti-time is now there (they then manage to neutralize it working w/the other enterprises), and that's the plot problem. As "anti-time", the mass would have been detectable the FIRST time they arrived at the location as opposed to when they returned later. Remember, it grew larger as time went BACKWARD. That's a major screw-up in my view.
^ good observation Stu..it's stilll a real good finale :p that remidns me ..I loved Chain of Command when Picard is captured by the cardassians and tortured..real powerful stuff.
I was never good at math, but I recall two unforgettable features ;). I would definitely like to perform a level one diagnostic to find out if they were real or implants (silicone, saline or borg).
:) For the sake of this avid Trekkie, can we please desist with the salivating over silicone. Muchas gracias. The previous page contains some of my favourite descriptions of different Star Trek episodes, i'd like to remember this thread for that alone. Muchas gracias! :)
Nadia & Hum sa you gals are spoil sports btw Nadia Stu and me are waiting for the result of the level one diagnostic before we can comment about the anamoly..
Spock was one of my favourites... "I object to intellect without discipline; I object to power without constructive purpose" ...... "I'm frequently appalled by the low regard you Earthmen have for life".
