It’s like I can picture myself at the front of the church and when asked by the minister: “who gives this girl to be wed” I jump up and down, saying: it’s me!!!

I want to be the one who’s toasted (with non-alcoholic drinks) at the wedding reception for bringing them together.

I want the children named after me.

I want to tie the saree knot (or whatever they tie) when the couple is about to take their saat pherays.

I want to be the wali or waakil on behalf of the couple.

Alas, my moment has yet to come, what with my bad luck in rishta-auntying. So far, no bakras and bakris, erm, larkas and larkis, have fallen into my trap.

i just want to pull out the “rishta card” every time the couple refuse to do something for me. like the need to have them be eternally grateful to me as if they would be miserable without me. i basically want to be the third person in their relationship.
