Re: EVER WONDER WHY,...?
Why a nun can be covered from head to toe , she's respected for devoting herself to God, but when a Muslimah does that, she's considered "oppressed"?
Because in some Muslim countries even non-muslims are *forced *to wear a head-to-toe covering under law. There is no political law forcing a catholic woman to wear the covering...it is her choice to go into the church system as an adult and wear that when she has decided to devote her life to God competely and wholy. In our religion and culture, you are encouraged and sometimes forced to wear the hijab without the inside being completely given to God...and sometimes under a political decree. The reason the perception of oppression is created is because most (if not all) nuns have chosen to become nuns; while most Muslim women have not chosen to become Muslim but were born into it and are automatically required to wear the hijab (under the orthodox interpetation) and are scorned from the community if she chooses to not be Muslim. Yes, its quite unfair for media to generalize that all Hijabis are oppressed..this is obviously not true; there are many Muslim women like the nuns who have made a conscientious decision about their dress. The questoin is..are there any young christian girls forced to do this by their culture?
** Why a Jew can grow a beard and he's just practicing his faith, and when a Muslim does that, he's an extremist?
**
hmm...not many Jews with beards have flown planes into buildings..or burn effigies of Bush...or proclaim time and time again that the west is Satan, and that secularists are evil. Remember..its the Muslim dudes with beards that are hating on people *here (the western developed world), *not If Jews with beards started claiming these things and yes.if media portrayed them..then they would be equally considered extremists- i admit media is biased..but that does not mean we can take off the burden of responsiblity of our people's actions away. Muslim guys with beards have a higher PROBABILITY of commiting extreme acts than a Mormon with a beard. Its quite the reasonable assumption.
When a western woman stays at home to look after the house and kids she's sacrificing herself and doing good for the house hold, but when a Muslim woman does so, she "needs to be liberated"?
Because there is no cultural norm that doesn't encourage a women to pursue another option. See thats the difference here. A western women CHOOSES to stay at home or work. A Muslim woman is EXPECTED to stay at home..and if she does different..she is breaking the norm..and her mother-in-law gets pissed off at her. The whole confusion is giving people FREEDOM to choose their lives. "Islamic" countries do not have that freedom because the culture engraines limitations and constraints..that prevent people from truly expressing themselves..but they have to fit a cookie cutter lifestyle. A Muslim women (in general) is brought up to fulfill this "role" (which is quite obvious form the conversations that ive had on this forum alone..let alone real people). She is not being selfless...thats how the culture is. A western woman is MORE self-less..because she is given the ability and freedom to neglect her children, not even marry infact..and if she still decides to stay at home..then that is truly respectable.
**
Why is it that when a child dedicates himself to a subject,he has potential, and when a child dedicates himself to Islam,he is hopeless?**
Because success is measured by how much you improve and help the world; while studying Islam people think wont IMPACT the world (parents always hope that from their children..but they dont realize that 99% of ppl fail to make an impact anyways) And unfortunately, there aren't many Islamic institutions that allow people to look at this as a valid career path. Whereas, being a Catholic bishop, priest, theologian..isn't something that parents look down upon at all. This has more to do with our cultures outlook..and the fact that the infrastructures aren't there (there are some..but not many).
But this is not exclusive to religion!..we have the thinking that ...doctor engineer lawyer computer walla good...artist, journalist, poet, theoretical physicist or religious field...not good. How will you get food for your children? basically is the question parents ask.
When a Christian kills someone, religion is not mentioned,(i.e., Ireland and the IRA) but when a Muslim is charged with a crime, it's Islam that goes to trial?
I think this question is WAY to general and misleading. Ofcourse religion IS mentioned in case 1..and no Islam isn't always taken to trial in case 2. It depends on who is doing the reporting. If you have an ultra-conservative network..then they wont give u news u like. If u have someone like BBC..it may give u something u like. In the case of IRA, everyone knows its about protestants and catholics..and it is mentioned and is a big deal over there..but its more of a civil war..as opposed to cross country ultra-extreme-Muslims waging a war against the modern developed world. Quite a difference there my friend..that requires people to evaluate (and not put to "trial") whether the religion actually teaches that. this is actually good cause it started a discourse on islam after 9-11..whereas people had no clue about it b4l.
** But then again, why is it after all that, Islam is still the fastest growing religion in the world ?
**Muslim brothers and sisters...stop being proud of this point i beg you. These statisics are misleading our culture. Since when does having the biggest population mean "WE WIN WE WIN"? Do these statistics take into consideration the personal doubt and skepticism that so many Muslims hold? Do these take into consideration how many converts leave Islam after joining it? Yes... don't think that ALL converts stay in the religion. And..do these stats give the infromation that most Muslims are living in underdeveloped countries where having more children is a cultural norm (for village areas and because of low mortality rates)..and are procreating quite effectively and fastly?
Do not let this be our "selling point" to potential converts.
