Ever wonder no one will know you existed ...

after your great grandkids. Something to ponder about since we all exist as of rite now but the point is do you remember your great grand parents? Does any one talk about them? I can’t find the answer to that question which is perhaps sad but I think the hidden truth lies in between these lines.

:konfused:

Re: Ever wonder no one will know you existed ...

I remember my great grand mother she died when i was 8 years old and she was probably mashallah 100.
My parents talk about our grand parents a lot.

Re: Ever wonder no one will know you existed ...

As a matter of fact who cares ? Some people has those family trees with all those old photographs etc. My uncle (Chacha) is keeping track of ours - he has all old historical photographs etc but there is no one after him to take care of this stuff since life is hectic & no one has interest.

I personally dont care about my great grand parents & I dont even think about my grant grand children, why should I ?

Re: Ever wonder no one will know you existed ...

if u die before having kids, u will be forgotton very fast. maybe 10 yrs after your death.

bottom line is that most of us are just "ordinary" people so only pple who will remember us are our kids. on the other hand if u are special in any sense then u will be remeberd for a longer time.

Re: Ever wonder no one will know you existed ...

I don't think it will make any difference to our ancestors whether we remember them or not, they're dead, they don't care..

I do like it though when occasionally my grandfather will tell me about how brave and heroic such and such a person from my family was, but it makes me proud and haughty and I start feeling as though I'm better than those not from the same tribe which is wrong.

Re: Ever wonder no one will know you existed ...

Knowing your family history and heritage is a wonderful gift. I only knew grandmothers, the grandfathers had passed on before my time. But the few photos we have, the correspondence that was saved, the stories that are told make them precious to me.

Whether or not you know of them in a personal way, your ancestors are responsible in a major way for who and what you are. So even if you dont know the specifics about them, they have had a major impact on your life.

Re: Ever wonder no one will know you existed ...

we will be remembered only if we pass on something good like sadaqa jaariya, for example planting trees for shade and food, building a well, teaching quran or some other deeni knowledge and passing on something for the sake of Allah. Otherwise even if you leave so much wealth it won't be of any use to you when your dead and buried. The sadaqa jaariya and quran that you taught your kids will continue on forever untill the day of judgement :)

Re: Ever wonder no one will know you existed ...

One more thing i remember my ancestors because when i read quran it will give them some sawab and thats the only thing i expect from my kids to read quran for me when i'll be dead .WE are doing it for our forefathers.

Not unless you do something crazy like punch the President. :>

Re: Ever wonder no one will know you existed ...

Rockistan .. i have always wondered about this .. that we have forgotten alot of persons who should have been known to us . but if we don't let them go beyond our memories we cannot go on .. this is how life is

My great-great grandfather was passing the same phase of his life as I am passing these days!
