i can only think of shadi.com right now
but are there potential rishtas there?

I didnt myself , but i know of several families , who have managed to find really good rishta's from there .....
Initially I used to think its a joke ... but then had i not seen it with me eyes , I wouldnt have believed !!

its strange…it seems a flourishing business and apparently it does work for a lot of ppl
in fact one of my very good friends found her mate that way except that her father was the one who registered on her behlaf on the site looking for a potential rishta …so obviously it works…she is happily married now…
but i just can’t imagine how ppl go abt doing it …cuz one wud think that ppl wud only volunteer a clean , untarnished front wudn’t they…it just feels like such an awkward situation to be in

I got msg from 2 parents last year. I did free registration so acc expire after little while.

well not me but a few of my mates did ..but awein nikammey ..and to be honest the impression i got thru my mates ..is that the other parties too werent as truthfull ..cos of of ma mate ..decided to go thru with it ..cos he thought yeh ..she may be it for me ..so it got to teh point where she gave her location and her address ...and funny enough ..she turned out to be a girl he knew from his own town lol.. and now this was a new story cos the girl wasnt as truthful as she made her self to be, it was actually the total opposite ..
but this is just one case i know .. but i personally think .its a no no for the long run .. cos ur meeting this person ..whose history you dunt know ..whch may come to haunt ya later on if ya two decide to hitch up ..but ..i think what i ve seen and know from frends ..that this sorta things leaves too many blank spaces about each other ..

See the trick is , use the site for introductions... at the end of the day you are not just gonna get married to someone without knowing them and their family and doing proper research ...
for example , my friend's parents were trying for her since long , so when a few guys were shortlisted on the site , her parents and she met the families one after the other ... spoke to them several times , did proper reference checks ...
it was just like rishta wali aunty recomending some family and the rest is upto you to do your research on that family and see whether it works out or not ... quite a similar experience with online proposals ...
I agree majority people lie as well .. but then my friend made sure to do the references on interested guys .... and were very cautious on who they invited home etc ...

both time girl's father contacted me. They gave me no to contact. Spoke to very fatherly manner.
One was big officer in army , you could tell they way he spoke.
Next one was some IT professional from the city where I am from.
But to answer you question Yes there are real ppl there.

oh God yes...my Indian friend signed me up for shaadi.com after I asked her to join Naseeb

^ Its funny back when i was on Naseeb (2003-2004) alot of people i met there knew each other from Shaadi.com and Muslim Matrimonials etc. I can see getting to know people on Gupshup but i can never figure out how you can meet up people on matrimonial sites
As for being truthful or not, that aspect IMHO doesn’t apply to matrimonial sites only. Shaadi hookup business is as old as time itself and in the past potential parties have lied even if they’re going through matchmakers or marriage bureaus or the aunti in their neighbourhood who has an opinion for everyone.
Its the same journey and same destination. Only the vehicle has changed.

I did get registered and got some 2 proposal, but after seeing my pic, they never came back..
