It's assisted suicide really. I'm torn on this subject. If legalized, where do you draw the line: would people cry euthanasia when a wealthy grandmother whose estate will be passed on to some ever-greedy offspring is suffering from an ailment?

thats what i was thinking aswell. It gives leeway to people like you mentioned. To be honest i think this is an area where the government should enforce minimal legislation because its a very personal issue. I know that if some wheel chair bound really ill and beyond treatment person wanted this, i would not as the government or whatever stand in their way. Its a very grey area. On the one hand its inhumane to force a human being to live a life off pain and suffering. On the other hand you have people like you mentioned disguising real crime as euthanasia. So we're stuck in limbo

I lean the opposite way: I think it should be legal but tightly regulated. If possible, the person suffering should be allowed to have some say while they still have the capacity to do so. Going beyond that, I think a doctor and an attorney should be involved; the doctor to make the medical decision and the attorney to protect the patient and his/her estate.
The case of the wealthy grandmother makes people lean one way, but what about that of a cancer patient who's suffering? If their life expectancy is short, and they're in pain, should they be allowed to make that choice?
I agree though, it's a very difficult subject.

Attorney to protect the patient? The other party can hire another attorney to protect their interests just as well and attorneys will only protect those who pay them the bigger bucks. This is why this issue is so contentious! Murdering a grandma vs relieving someone from excruciating pain - what's more pressing and works for the 'greater good'?
