Saadia, Terry Schiavo has been in a persistent vegetative state since 1990 after suffering a heart attack. She was bulimic which means she had an eating disorder that compelled her to vomit after eating vast amounts of food. This caused an imbalance of her electrolyte and potassium levels. That’s what triggered the heart attack. So it’s kind of a tragic twist that now she is in danger of being ‘starved to death’ following the bulimia.
Her husband insists she wanted a dignified death. But from a parents point of view they want to hang onto any last chance.

“Terri is showing signs of being starved to death,” Mr. O’Donnell said they told him. "She is getting very tired. She is still alert, she still laughs. Her skin is beginning to dry.
“Her own mother cannot offer her daughter an ice chip in her mouth to make her comfortable,” he said. “Her own mother cannot be at her side without being watched by an armed police officer.”
