Has anyone here ever taken a trip around Europe? I was thinking about driving from one country to another. I am a US citizen, not sure about the visa status. Does anyone know how much time period, and how much expense is associated with a trip of this magnitude.

Any help would be appreciated.
i think you should be ok :S if u dont need a visa to go to london, then i think u'll be fine for most of europe
It would make more sense to utilize the excellent public transportation system of Europe rather than driving around in a car across borders. Car driving makes sense in the USA but I would recommend rail for Europe. There are some excellent train pass deals on the web too.
Also you can fly into one country say France (Paris) and then do the train thing across and fly out of say Rome or Madrid back to USA. With open-jaw ticket you don't have to go back to the same city twice.
A nice itinerary would be;
USA - Paris
Paris - Central Switzerland
Central Switzerland - Italy
Italy - Spain
Spain - Portugal
and back to USA
Appreciate your response guys. The only downside about using a public transportation is that you can't take extra time if you want to visit a city and you are hurried to catch the next train. But I am guessing its more cost-affective.
