So I’ve been traveling across Europe for a few weeks now and I finally got a chance to get on GS. I should have done this before I left, but I want to hear from people who’ve been to the following cities before: Vienna, Venice, Florence and Rome. This is the tail end of my trip.
If you guys know of any non-touristy, but must see places, please share!
i think the best way to see Europe is by train...buy a Eurail Pass and hop on N off the trains as you like and when you like with unlimited stop overs. do it at your leisure.
Venice:
I stayed at the Hotel Olympia, marvelous location and stunningly beautiful. 15 minute walk from central station.. (they have free wi-fi, ask the counter for pass)
Campanile - the Venice tallest building for the birds eye view, must do.
The best time to walk around is after 12PM and early morning, that is when Venice is at its best.
Experience Gondola, but only in the evening.
Just sit in any open air in-front-of-water Resturant and sip excellente`venetian vino. what else a man want?
Before leaving do buy a mask, i still have two hanging in my sitting room, its a nice reminder of wonderful time spent.
You will found hefty amount of desi’s majority of them are Bengali’s..
Firenze:
Ah .. my love. I been to this city countless times, my wife is from here. From the usual tourist places the must see are Uffizi, Galleria dell Accademia and Bargello. Mind you, the Bargello is to sculpture what the Uffizi is to painting, must see. In amore Firenze art and history surround you and take you back in time as far as your imagination will allow. If i have 100 years to live i will spend every moment in Firenze… and the bridges… Legend has it that if you and your loved one attach a padlock to any surface of the any bridge and then throw away the key into the Arno River below, your love will last forever. Buy a bottle of vino, and sit under moon light at Ponte Veechio - that’s all.
When you are in Firenze, tell her i miss her and i will be back.
Yup, this is what I did, but most trains require reservations, some of which can be quite expensive.
Holy! Appreciate the info. I only stayed in Venice for one day, definitely saw a lot of Bengalis lol. Started exploring Florence today, just saw the ponte veechio. Pretty cool. Appreciate the tips about the other sites.
