Europe's low fare carriers

Those who live in Europe, can you share any experiences with Easyjet or Ryanair.

I am looking at a one-way fare between Frankfurt and Barcelona for €9.99 (incl taxes) on the web (seven day advance).

Is this for real?

What about dependability when it comes to on-time departure and flight cancellation, especially in winter?

thanks

Depends which airline. If its ryanair, well i have heard they are just as dependable as easy jet however service is no existant. They have nothing but seats oh yeah and a pilot.

Easyjet is reliable but depending on the situation at the airport. They are on time and stuff. Generally a good service.

no service, plus you pay airport tax, the airport landing is not the main/closest one to the city, mostly u would need a long train/bus ride to get to the city.

As Saadia said, flights are not usually from main airports so you have to travel out of your way, and no inflight meals (not really a deal breaker considering the state of most airline food), plus the fares quoted are one way so you usually end up buying a full priced fare anyway to get back.

What everyone else said. Not much difference between the two.

The prices given are one-way. It might cost €20 going.. but they'll make up their money if you wanna go back. Plus I dont remember how it goes but there are usually extra fees. The important thing is that you order well in advance, if you wait you might as well take a regular airline.

They use puddle-jumpers at second rate airports.. so that means a long ride to the airport and another ride to the small plane. But they're about as timely as any other airline.

No service onboard, but depending on how you get your ticket you could probably get package deals on rentacars, etc.

I dunno, maybe I'm just neurotic, but I'd take a train over these guys if I had the time. Airports and everything associated with them are just such a pain anymore. With a train you walk up, push a button swipe a card and you're good to go.

Then again, Frankfurt-Barcelona would be about a 20 hr trip by train!

And I don´t think there is a direct train connection either, so you´d have to add the waiting time at the place where you change trains.

Thank you for the very useful pointers.

I booked with sensibly reasonable connection times with my Lufthansa flights and didn’t have to rush and got some bonus sightseeing done.

Air travel less expensive than rail? who would have thought!
