European football leagues

Re: European football leagues

What a chance missed by Liverpool. JM irritates me a lot, everything he does is so attention seeking.

Re: European football leagues

its funny because he got ALL 11 of his men behind the ball - yet he had a problem when west ham did that, calling it "19th century football". Regardless, bringing on aspas and having three defenders was a bold move by rodgers, if it was any other team it would have paid off but chelsea having the solid back four that they do made it extremely difficult. This is where we really could have used henderson today, he would have chased defence down and tire them out. When the FFP is in full swing, city will maybe get by on self sponsorships, but chelsea will be hit hard by it. As far as we are concerned, offload aspas, alberto, moses and cissokho. With that money and money for champions league, that should give rodgers £80 million at least to spend in the summer. It should be used as a priority to sort out the back 4, maybe a winger aswell.

Re: European football leagues

He does it for the cameras, really couldn't have disliked anyone else more than him as a manager.

If City win the league you guys will be gutted. What a massive chance that's been missed. Next season will be great, you, Chelsea, City, us and Utd all vying for top4 and title. I think squad depth wise you guys will be weakest and will need a lot of new faces due to more games.

Bayern completely lack pace and depth allowing Madrid to sit deep and break. And in the first half they just didn't track back. Benzema a few times was left unmarked.

Re: European football leagues

Hala Madrid

Well there goes the title. At least we have solidified our position again as a top four team and I have a feeling we are gonna be here for a long time

Re: European football leagues

Crucial is getting a solid squad in, you will have more games next year and your squad needs to be strengthened, Liverpool played nearly a dozen games less than the rest of top teams and are just about the same level of points with City and Chelsea. That's a lot of games. We have seen Chelsea and even Utd now knocked out of Top4 but can make comebacks esp since Chelsea have a money pit. Liverpool don't. If you guys lose out on Top4 even once again it will be very hard. Chelsea, City's and Utd's clout will make sure they come in the Top4 again, while we have been there for 17 years now and know when to get the job done atleast for top four position. You guys with more games will have to be perfect with a bigger squad otherwise it will get very hard IMO. Infact the only team who hasn't dropped out of top4 in the recent two decades almost is Arsenal.

I feel you need to get fullbacks and solid DC and maybe another DMC.

For us we need a striker and we are sorted. Girouds barren run in two months, Feb and March crucially cost us massively.

Re: European football leagues

Chelsea missed the chance to go top of the Premier League after being held to a goalless draw at home to strugglers Norwich on Sunday.

The stalemate at Stamford Bridge all but ended Chelsea’s title bid, with Jose Mourinho’s men now a point behind both leaders Manchester City and second-placed Liverpool with just one match of their league season remaining.

Liverpool will return to the summit if they win away to Crystal Palace on Monday.

However, City will still have a game in hand on both Liverpool and Chelsea after Monday’s match at Selhurst Park.

Norwich’s battling effort left them on 33 points with one game remaining and on the brink of relegation.

Sunderland are also in danger on 35 points but the north-east side have two games still to play as do West Bromwich Albion, who have 36 points.

Earlier, Arsenal celebrated their qualification for next season’s Champions League with a 1-0 win at home to West Bromwich Albion on Sunday.

France striker Olivier Giroud scored the only goal of the game when he headed in a 14th-minute corner.

Everton’s 3-2 defeat by Manchester City on Saturday meant Arsenal kicked-off at the Emirates Stadium knowing they could not be caught in the race for fourth place in the Premier League and a spot in next term’s Champions League.

“I believe the mentality of the team was outstanding (in reaching the Champions League),” said Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, whose side will look to end a nine-year spell without a major trophy when they face Hull in this month’s FA Cup final at Wembley. “We still have games in front of us. You can be pleased of the attitude, but frustrated because we were top of the league (for 128 days) then we dropped off.” The veteran French boss added: “We had injures — three or four players who missed too many games.

“And in some games, at the start away from home, we were caught by surprise.

“We were perhaps too cautious and not confident enough. We paid a heavy price for it.”

This result left West Brom three points above the relegation zone, but still with two games to play.

Although Sunderland and Norwich are still below his side in the table, Baggies manager Pepe Mel refused to accept the Midlands side had beaten the drop.

“No, an extra point we need, we have two matches and one point to get,” he said.

“Now our only focus is on Sunderland. I think the players are very good professionals and every day and every week work on the pitch and there is a good atmosphere. I enjoy West Brom,” the Spaniard added.

Re: European football leagues

Oh dear.

City's league now.

Re: European football leagues

Suarez crying after the draw

I would love to see Liverpool winning :frowning:

Re: European football leagues

We did not deserve to win that game. We did our thing, attack from the word go and got 3 goals. But then we became, lazy, cocky, defensively inadequate. Skrtel's failure to track back cost us massively. Title is city's to lose now. Rodgers went into this very naive. Anyways, we need a consistent back 4 as badly as chelsea need a half decent striker. Also remy was at the emirates - i cant help but speculate :/

Re: European football leagues

Would be hilarious if City somehow mess it up.

Looking forward to the FA Cup Final. A trophy. Finally...

Re: European football leagues

Looks like city took it. Still, to come from 7th to 2nd this season is an achievement. Full credit to rodgers. Heart wrenching seeing city lift that title :( But they earned it. Back to normality i suppose now

Re: European football leagues

Main thing you guys will have to sort out is your defence. 50 goals conceded is not good enough, especially considering you guys have only been competing for the league. Still he did an excellent job.

Do you think Madrid will take Suarez?

Re: European football leagues

I doubt it. Firstly his buyout clause is 100 million. And second he just signed a new contract this year with us. He seems to enjoy it here. Do or die time today for arsenal :D

Re: European football leagues

That it is :D

Predictions?

I am going for a 3-1. Hope Sagna and Fabianski don't play.

Re: European football leagues

Get in, a calamitous start but great fightback. So happy for Wenger, hopefully a spring for more success.

:hooray:

Close call but I'm just glad wenger got something in return for his commitment and loyalty. What a difference Ramsey makes to the squad

Re: European football leagues

Absolutely.

The referee was dibolical though, their second goal came from a free kick taken eight yards further from where it was meant to be and we had three solid penalty shouts turned down. Abysmal from the ref. And then Bruce had the nerve to talk about the decisions :rotfl:

Very glad we won, Ramsey was class.
