A new crisis is emerging within Europe, embarrassing Britain’s presidency of the Union and throwing up uncomfortable accusations of racism.
Entry talks for Turkey to join the EU could be off as Austria continues to block full membership.
The Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan says he will noy compromise any further on conditions for his country’s EU entry. Britain’s Foreign Secretary Jack Straw, who is chairing crisis talks in Luxembourg, said it is unlikely that historic entry talks will open today.

Austria objects to Turkey becoming a full member - and is instead pushing for the predominately Muslim country to be offered “privileged membership” - but NOT full membership.

Turkey should face up to the fact Europe does not want it because its muslim simple fact. And even if Turkey is accepted they will be kicked out for not abdiding allegedly to one of the 10,000 laws that are being introduced into the turkish leagal system!
The main aim of Turkey is to maintain & increase their economical situation. They want to become a idol for other Islamic countries (don´t ask me, how it should work)...
you may expect a 80 paper-sheet, but I am sorry to say that those are the aims of Turkey...
Btw, I don´t accept that Turkey receives a help of 28 Billion € ^ in the year 2025..It´s far away, but if they become a memeber of the european union they will receive 21 Billion € subvention-money in 2014...And who pays this? The government? And from where does our government get the money? From US
In my opinion Turkey being blocked from becoming an EU member has more to do with the regional politics then the religion. Dont get me wrong, religion is an issue, alot of European countries are not very comfotable with the idea of a predominantly Muslim populated country entry in the European union, however, there are other issues which are blocking Turkey's enterance. Croatia is being kept out of the EU, because of its pending war crimes issues. Austria(which holds a alot of leverage), a close partner/friend of Croatia, is trying to get Croatia an EU membership(because it also plays in Austria's economic benefit). But the only way Austria can get the Croatia into the union is by playing some hardball. And thats exactly what it is. Bosnia-a Muslim country will very soon be a EU member.
