paul gascoigne another geordie with a rep' no doubt about the fact that. he was the best midfileder in the world in his prime he had it all @ such a young age but he let alcohol wreck a promising career and his private life and rooney is in a similar situation but gazza now realise his mistakes and has openly spoken of his admiration for wayne and he doesn't want him to suffer the same probs' as gazza did in his heydey.
rooney's game is a touch dif' to gazza's game, gazza had a gr8 footie brian at such a young age, he could deliver pin point crosses, kick the ball in deep with perfection, rooney is dif' in dat sense only, they have a lot of similarities, both were bulky @ such age's and both had good speed and ability to skin players with gr8 ease.
david dunn of birmingham has a similar game to gazza's he dribbles the ball in exactly the same manner as gazza did and he was tipped to become the next gazza but injuries have cost him dearly ever since he moved from blackburn.

I'm waiting for Fraudz to show his face, wasn't he dissing Rooney on Sunday? :p

There is no diss or critique about Rooney's talent, but to his temper, talent is part of the equation. The talent does jack if the guy gets himelf red carded due to temper..and that is not something that only yours truly has noted, Sven cautioned Rooney on this point as well. seems liek Rooney listened..had he continued to play with such a temper he would be considered a potential liability.
or have we forgotten worldcup '98..2 minutes into the second half ..David Beckham giving in to temper and kicking Simeone, getting a red card and making england play one player down for the rest of the half. Does not mean Becks was not talented, means his judgement was questionable.
This Rooney lad can score goals sure, as long as he can contain his temper and not do anything idiotic he would be fine, unlike ppl like Heskey who have not justified their own presence at the tourney. He is a diff story..
So Rooney's talent will surely be handy if he..
1) does not get a red card by pulling some idiotic stunt and leaving England with a 10 man team.
2) get in foul trouble and thus not be able to play.
Seems like just as I noted the fact that his temper can be a liability, Sven did too and had a chat with the lad :)
England are as good as through, Croatia’s undisciplined game will founder on England’s rock solid defence and instead of getting the win they need to go through, The Croats will leave themselves open to counter-attacks in their desperation leaving rich pickings for Owen and Rooney with my money being on Owen to get on the scoresheet tonight.
Looks like others see Rooney’s temper as a weakness and want to exploit it. Hopefully the lad will keep his cool and not act like a lout.
Croatia coach Otto Baric has urged his players to exploit England star Wayne Rooney’s volatile temperament when the sides play their crucial Group B game.
Baric revealed that he has targeted 18-year-old Rooney for special attention, nominating Josip Simunic for the task.
“I believe we have a way to stop him,” said Baric: “Rooney collects yellow cards, and let’s hope a red one.”
croatia scores.
the way our defense handled that, I doubt we will beat Croatia.
sorry guys, huge England supporter, but they need to pull the game up a few nothces here.
Knowing the mental lack of strength of english side, they go in looking for a draw and not a win, just like they rested on their one goal advantage over France.
Scholes first international goal in three years and England are on level terms deservingly. They have attacked quite consistently since going one goal down.

This is gonna go right down to the wire.

Another one...
Rooney scores just before half time..
I already told you guys, temperamental teams like Croatia cannot win matches like this. And nothing less than a win will do. Croatians defence is hopeless and WILL be punished…deservedly so. Owen to get the 2nd one with Rooney adding a 3rd once Croatia are demoralised.
and another one goes in as I speak.
Rooney’s marvellous strike :k: This teenager is talented for sure.
If England plays this attractive and attacking football in both halves of a match, there is no reason why they should not make major impacts internationally but alas they dont. Croatia needs to score twice now. And i m afraid England will sit back and defend again that has NOT worked for any team in this competition so far. I hope they continute to attack and not just sit back and try to defend their lead.
they needed a kick in the pants and they got it in the 6th minute. Now here is hoping that they can be mentally tough and not think that the game is over and just defend a one goal lead and basically play like they did against france in the second half.
