I have made a preliminary set-up for a fantasy league for the upcoming euro 2004 championship. Feedback is welcome and we can adapt the system accordingly.
There are two ways you can get points: via your match predictions and via your team.
First, the matches:
for each match, all participants will make a prediction of the result for each team involved in the tie. Points are awarded based on the actual scoreline. If you have the goals right by one team you will get 10 points; if you are 1 goal away you will get 3 points. 2 or more goals adrift is 0 points. This is done for both teams in the tie.
example: France - England.
my prediction 3-1
actualy scoreline 2- 1
here i will get 3 points because i was one goal away for france + 10 points because i was spot-on with respect to the goals scored for england. i will receive total 13 points for the tie
if my prediction was 0 - 0, i would have only gotten 3 points (1 goal adrift in the england score = 3. more than 2 goals adrift for the french score = 0).
These predictions will be made for all matches in the first round. After the first round, we will submit again the score lines for the known quarter final matches, and again for the semi-final and final.
Second, the teams:
you are asked to make a team consisting of 15 players that are named in the squads of the various teams, these are the rules for selection:
at least 1 goalkeeper
at least 4 defenders, of which maximum two full-backs
maximum 5 strikers
maximum 3 players from one side, and they have to be in a different position (so i cannot take owen and rooney, cuz they are both strikers)
points are awarded as follows:
goal scored by ur player: 15 points
penalty during match: 10 points
penalty during shoot-out: 10 points
penalty miss during shoot-out: - 5 points
assist by your player: 10 points
goals scored from a free-kick by ur player: 20 points
own goal: - 10 points
penalty save during match: 30 points (this includes penalties that miss the target)
penalty save during shoot-out: 20 points (this includes penalties that miss the target)
yellow card: - 5 points
red card (at once): - 20 points
(red card after two yellows is just twice -5 = - 10)
I just have to find out where i can get accurate data on assists…or we can appoint judges who have seen the match and can tell who got the assist*
Sounds good but quite complicated. Have you thought how you are going to keep track of all this.
While you are asking for 15 players to be nominated, will you score all of them or will people have to nominate 11 players in their team and 4 reserves for injuries?
Maybe F&B can help you or give you tips as he ran the cricket fantasy league very sucessfully during the recent series.
well, it will be 15 players who will score points together. I chose 15 cuz there will be a total of 16x22 = 352 players. Selecting 11 would be very few.
I think F&B can surely give some good tips....waiting for him to enter the thread.
As for keeping track, i think all the things required can easily be accessed from a reasonable football-site. Only the assists are a point of concern
gr8 idea mate, the stats’ for each game won’t be difficult 2 find, there r a number of good reliable footie sites which will u in that department. i’m willing to if u r stuck in any way.
can we look at the aspects of defending as well?
it does make the thing complicated but the point I am trying to make across is that even defenders should be able to score points.
The criteria is a bit confusing...probably what we can look at is if the defender is on the field for more than X mins of time and a no goal has been scored from the opponents - we can give the defender points - sounds a bit vague...will come back with concrete suggestions
also, (this is other sites as well) can we tag a price to a player - if we dont do this then most of the teams will be similar. once the price is fixed then we say you can choose the team worth say 50 mill.
^those are good suggestion you're giving here, but I think it will make matter unduly complicated. Although the teams might look similar, there will also be a huge difference in the scorelines one predicts.
On top of that, by restricting everyone to max 3/4 players from one country, there will be quite some difference induced in the teams
First one looks pretty good but I think 2nd one is too complicated. It will require someone to watch all the matches, which is just not possible. Otherwise how could you find out who assisted whome to score a goal. Infect what does assitance means here.If player A does all the hardwork and takes ball all the way to oppositions area and then B just touches the ball and C scores it. Who will get the points? It will become very controversial. Another thing is why should one be panlized for Redcard. Biggest penalty is that his player is not gonna play next match.
I would stick with just 1st one.It is simple easy to maintain and less controversial.
^well, otherwise there's no use of defenders....no they can get minus points, so u shud select ur defenders with care.
let's say that you can submit ur teams once the UEFA deadline of the squad passes and after that the deadlines for submission is before the start of the first match
more and more teams are announced. Don't you ppl think this is a good time to open up for submission of your team??? We have around 25 days before the start. So ppl will have enought time to make changes if they want
