Etiquettes of Quran memorisation

Just wondering if there are certain etiquettes of Quran memorisation that need to be followed?

All the Hafiz and Hafizas I know took a year out of school/college to enrol in a madrassa to memorise the Quran. That’s not necessary, is it? You can do it at home, take all the time you need?

Re: Etiquettes of Quran memorisation

u go to madrasa for access to a qarii and the 'learning environment'...the student of Hifz has to read it to someone who is a Haafiz himself so he could tell him if he made any mistakes. having said that, if you have a Haafiz is available to you then it's absolutely not necessary to go to a madrasa...learning at home doesn't give you a right environment where you can pay FULL concentration. besides, at madrasa, you also have the benefit of having fellow students who are doing the same thing which is quite useful.

btw, the plural for Haafiz is Huffaaz. :)

Re: Etiquettes of Quran memorisation

Yeah I was going to write Hafizs but that didn't sound right :@: Thanks.

Okay I know there are benefits in joining a madrassa for this purpose but it's not necessary, is it? It's just that I haven't heard of anyone learning Quran at home in their own time so I just wanted to make sure is mein kuch ghalat tau nahin hai?

Re: Etiquettes of Quran memorisation

BBQ its not necessary to take off from school, people do it while going to school. But it becomes quite hectic to manage both sides. KKF is right in saying that Madarsa where other students are doing so is the proper place, because there you can make other to listen your recitation and point out your mistakes about pronunciation or missing of any words.

Normally, a student has to do three recitation and read it out to the other student or Molvi Saheb. The first one is recite the current sura you are memorising.. The second one is to recite and read it out to the other person, surah you recently completed and in last a half or full paras you completed earlier. This show how much time is required. It starts from Fajr and goes till Isha.. Normally breaks are given during 12:00 a.m till Zohar, then a break between Asar and Maghrib.

no, it's NOT necessary...i've seen kids memorizing Qur'aan at home. it's absolutely OK to memorize at home. :)

Re: Etiquettes of Quran memorisation

Peace BBQ,

Purpose of 'Madrassa' or any other place where students can memorize the Holy Qur'an are:

1- Atmosphere
2- Understand the meanings of words and verses
3- Explaning the reason of 'Nazool-e-Surah'
4- Incident, hadith related to a verse and chapter.

In arabic there is a quote which translation is "Bachpan ka Ilam, pathar pr lakeer ki tarha hota hy" so learning in teenage, with meanings of words, verses, explanation of 'Shaan-e-Nazool', incident, hadith to related to it will be same as a line on stone. Even if you forgotten due to any reason doesn't matter but when you re-start reading it you'll be remembered what u learned when and all the things will become clear for you.

Re: Etiquettes of Quran memorisation

I'm pretty confident about my pronunciation etc. Was lucky enough to learn reading the Quran under the supervision of a Qari sahab in Pakistan when I was younger. Plus mum's pretty strict about correct pronunciation so she really fine-tuned us all.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. =)
