Re: etiquette question

I say lock the aunty in the loo as well :sahar02:

Re: etiquette question

A hard loud slap to one of the kids should do the trick.

Re: etiquette question

lol at Chicken Biryani and Rupay!

Gemini, you can open all my closets all you want, i dont mind you. Now when you have kids, i will lock them n the bathroom if htey do that.

The kids werent hungry, if they are, they usually tell me and i give them snacks. They could see i was already busy frying pakoras. The good thing is that the mom doesnt mind if i tell the kids off nicely. Like you guys said, its a hazard with a hot karahi on the stove and little kids running around. I sure wouldnt want any accidents under my watch.

The lady opening the closets etc are looking for a house themeselves so i think thats why she was trying to see but it still peeves me off a bit. Oh well, i said what i felt. And from what everyone says, i wasnt rude to prevent them from opening doors like hubs said i was.

Turns out the one who cancelled at the last minute wasnt in the mood to come without her husband so tahts why she cancelled. It turned out beautifully in the end with the amount of guests since i could easily handle the kids etc. And ofcourse more leftover snacks for us :D

Why? What is wrong with her?

Wow! I’m impressed. If I knew this little trick I would have resorted to it many a time. Guaranteed way of making guests leave earlier. Had the same problem with houseguests, played around with the washing machine dial and the cooker, but mummy never said anything to her little darlings. If I said anything I would just get a lecture, “a young child doesn’t understand these things, so don’t try to make them”.

There is a similar breed of Aunty in our area. We have to keep an eye on her whenever she is over, looks in all cabinets, wardrobes, fridges she can get her hands on when the host is out of the room. God help you if she uses the upstairs bathroom, half an hour later she can be found snooping in one of the bedrooms. When asked “Oh, I just wanted to see how much space you had in here”. BS!

Re: etiquette question

You know when you were younger and if you didnt eat your greens your mum would threaten you with a 'slap' from one of the elder aunties? Well im the elder aunty when it comes to kids and visiting. One of my cousins actually says to her children ' khala Milly will come and smack you!'

I have NEVER smacked a child. EVER.

But these poor mites are genuinely afraid. I think its cos I have a 'teacher' voice. They are compelled to obey! :D

I think sometimes children need another adult to give them some discipline. Can you imagine having to listen to your mother shouting at you all the flipping time...change of voice is needed.

Re: etiquette question

I so agree Milly … :omg:

Well the point is , if the guest mommy cant keep the kids under control , she has no right to stop the host from desciplining any unruly kids on HER property … simple as that. Now whether the mommy minds or flips or gives the arsy looks , I dont thing the host should care at all … better still the host gets the opportunity to descipline both mommy and kids :cb:

Re: etiquette question

we actually had a dholki where a kid was going and pressing all the buttons on the dvd player and everything else in the entertainment system. the mom was busy snapping pictures of her self, to update her profile pic, while the little monster was trying to destroy things. after a nice " don't do that" then a "i will slap you" finally one of my friends casually mentioned to the mom, "wow i didn't know u were buying them a new dvd player" to which the mom is like "whattttt" and she responded "you son's gonna break that one" she said something like kids will be kids.. and the friend said... yea but urs is a monster control him... she left, but at least everyone could breathe!

Re: etiquette question

^ “urs is a monster control him” i can never imagine say ing that to someone! lol…

I remember wheN I was in pakistan, relatives would come over the house and just go through the rooms…they’d open allllll the drawers and cuboards and make stupid comemnts about how it’s dirty or it’s not “set” yet etc… I"m the type who likes to have my stuff out…in the houses in pakistan everything is concealed inside drawers and cabinets..fair enough… Meh.

Your home your rules, As for the kids yes you can tell them no but do not yell. As for the guests who don't keep an eye on their kids in the first place you should let them know to keep them in order. May be if you have gathering you should make a kids conver so their area is determined and they'll get the point to stay there (Hopyfully) but get colouring books and crayons and a few games and set up an area just for them, This way you keep control and wouldn't look *****y

But on top of that, these should be rules that they already know. Shame on their parents for not teaching them. If your polite request isn't polite enough for their tastes, then they can take up the issue with their parents.
