Etiquette of asking for a recipe

Okay so I’ve heard a few stories here about people will take your recipes and then not credit you for it… and yet others who will refuse to give their recipes. (and quite frankly…I can actually understand the motive behind the latter).

So what’s the proper way to ask someone for a recipe AND ACTUALLY GET IT :what: yo u know…without being too desperate or something? And at what point do you just give up cz they’re not gonna give it to you :naak:

Re: Etiquette of asking for a recipe

If you're going to ask someone for their recipe....you start off by complimenting them...and ask "Would you mind sharing the recipe? If you don't want to, I understand." You praise them so they're more open to sharing with you....but you leave it totally up to them...and that's etiquette enough I think.

As for people not giving you credit after they try out your recipe....well....you can't really control that can you? They might follow it to the tee...and pass it off as their own. Or they might change a couple of the ingredients....and feel that it's enough to make the recipe "their own". I can understand how that can be annoying.....but at the same time....how original are recipes? Some of the dishes that we make in our homes regularly and comfortably.....may have come from an online source....or a cooking show.....or from our mothers who may have got the recipe from a friend, or a relo, or from some other source.

Re: Etiquette of asking for a recipe

I dont get much worried if they dont credit the recipe .. coz it really doesnt matter .. recipe is just a good way of sharing like a gift …
What I have never liked is when they rub it in the face and try to compete with me … me no like that attitude :nessy:

I think making a simple request once like RV said .. is enough … if they dont share it after your first request , no point asking again coz its clear they arent interested or will give you a wrong recipe …

Once we were invited to a party, a lady came up and said i have heard alot of tareef about a certain dish you make … i am learnin cooking and would appreciate if you could share the recipe … just because she flattered me to death , I told her almost all of my recipes :hinna:

Re: Etiquette of asking for a recipe

I share openly and dont need to be asked a second or third time

CB!!! How will you ever become the next Food Network star if you divulge your recipes like that. :nahi:
