As I booked my ticket with Etihad airways this time and then realised later that their baggage allowance is only 23kg. I’ll be flying from London heathrow to ISB Pakistan. Can u all please share ur experiences How was overall journey? Are they strict about the allowance? I am sure I’m gonna carry a bit more than 23kg. How big is Abu Dhabi airport as I have a stay of 3 hours there? Thanks in advance ![]()
Re: Etihad Airways
I only travelled with Etihad once as Emirates were booked on my preferred dates, the service is just as good as Emirates, the luggage allowance i can't remember but i am sure they will be strict also. The airport when i travelled about 4 years ago with them was awful, so small and the ceiling design made me claustrophobic and the airport itself was tiny, nothing to do to pass time. Not sure if they have changed the airport since.
Re: Etihad Airways
Well, in beginning I really enjoyed travelling by Etihad Airways but since the Management were changes, Etihad service is now sucks (due to my bad experience). I perefer to use other airlines rather than it even if other airlines are expensive but Etihad No Way
. They allow 23kg but they charge little amount if there is any extra luggages. At Lahore airport I carried total 40kg luggage and they didn’t charged me even a single penny I don’t know why ![]()
But when I reached Abu Dhabi from Lahore, my next flight (same etihad airlines) was about to leave 45 minutes but delayed 5pm to 5am (+3GMT) due to non-availabiliy of their airlines. Those who were in first and business class were given different flights i.e. Gulf Air right after two hours but Economy class holders have to wait for Etihad airlines.
Abu Dhabi airpot is a round shaped small temple type airport. Within 10 min u’ll visit the whole airpot and in 30 minutes whole shopes in the airport. Moreover usually airport is so crowded even u won’t get any chair to sit
you’ll sit on floor if ur tired.
I argued with staff of etihad airlines who were keep saying sorry sorry sorry from last 6 hours and get in verbal fight with security personal who actually was an Indian but fluent in arabic and though himself superior to others. Many others including arabs also get in verbal fight with him as he was disrespecting passengers who were stuck there for 12 hours.
So finally we were onboard at 5am next day and the etihad plane were totally empty carrying only 8 or 10 passenger only and we reached Bahrain at 6am and have to report to the duty at 7:30.
Since that time till now I never travel through eithad anymore. Still many pplz travel and says their service is better than other airlines but I don’t wish to travel due to two reason. (1) Transit flight at Abu Dhabi temple airport (2) bad behaviour of security personals.
P.S. Internet and local calls are totally free if u would like to use net or would like to call some1 ![]()
Wish u all the best :k:
Re: Etihad Airways
i traveled once round-trip between Toronto and New Delhi...on the outbound journey, they allowed me to check in 3 pieces [2 suitcases weighing weighing 25 kg and one carry-on weighing 15 kg] they were quite generous. officially, we are allowed 2 suitcases [23 kg each] and one carry-on weighing 7 kg.
on the inbound journey from Delhi, they were very stringent...they charged me $50 for the carry-on which weight about 15 kg. so, it depends on the agent and the city you commence your journey.
they have free access to internet and it was working the day i was going to India but wasn't so lucky on the way back...none of them worked. there are plenty of stores and restaurants. there is a majid as well.
ground staff in Abu Dhabi are very unprofessional and they even give wrong info to passengers. the quality of service on-board depends on the crew. Toronto to Abu Dhabi crew was mostly from Philippines and Malaysia/Indonesia so their services were awful. Abu Dhabi-Delhi-Abu Dhabi wasn't bad at all...Abu Dhabi - Toronto service was the best because the entire crew was British.
i've decided NOT to fly Etihad ever again. they pack passengers in their B777-300's like sardines.
Re: Etihad Airways
I think etihad airlines is runs by Indian Management.
Re: Etihad Airways
Well I always travel through etihad n I like their services, when I travelled last year, they allowed 30 kg, Abu dhabi air port is small n good Ning is there is no rush for boarding n immigration comparative to Dubai terminals so yeah I like it.
Re: Etihad Airways
Oh Lord, your replies made me more stressed, I can mange about airport being too small by taking my ipad with me but so worried about baggage allowance, i have a huge family in Pakistan and have bought presents for everyone, now I don’t understand which to take with me and which to leave behind, I’m so regretting it, wth I booked it with etihad ![]()
Re: Etihad Airways
I don’t know about others but etihad n emirates allow same amount I think 30 kgs
Re: Etihad Airways
my chacho's family recently used etihad and yes they allow 30kg
Re: Etihad Airways
devilish angel and apple blossom, I wish they allow 30kg, but their website say 23kg for coral economy class, u can check it yourself Baggage allowances and charges
Re: Etihad Airways
Aoa As per my knowledge the weight you can carry is 30 kg and 10 kg can carry in hand in all international flights.Qatar airways is better airline in fare and also in services than Etihad.Your agent from you bought ticket can negotiate with the airline to get the permission to carry more weight.
Re: Etihad Airways
did you read my post? i gave you the latest info because i’ve recently traveled with them with extra baggage and i had to pay after they explained the rules.
yes, you can carry between 23 and 32 kg for a fee of $50…if you wanna have extra baggage allowance…you got to pay…there is nothing free these days.
Re: Etihad Airways
Hi Chalakomaasi,
Etihad is generally fine with a little excess baggage or over weight luggage from around the world but if i understand correctly you are flying from heathrow you are only allowed 1 piece of luggage and that too cannot exceed 23kg and that is mandated by Heathrow airport authority. I would suggest calling the airport authorities before you finalize your luggage. One other thing they charge quiet a bit for excess baggage.
Goodluck for your trip.
Re: Etihad Airways
Etihad has a history and long standing reputation for screwing people over when they are leaving Pakistan, arrive in Abu Dhabi ... and then oops, you missed your connecting flight or the flight has been delayed till the next day.
The best place to sleep at that airport is the masjid.
Re: Etihad Airways
woah mehnaz ur scaring the hell outta me, Oh God I hope it won't happen to me. :(
Re: Etihad Airways
I recently traveled via etihad for umrah from manchester in july. I really liked their services. Had no problems and wehad a six month old infant as well. Cant say much abt excess baggage as we had reasonable within range baggage. Abu dhabi airport is pretty decent.
We had a stopover for 6 hours. You can go stay in their vip lounges for a period of 4 hrs. It cost us about £35 per person and the Al Dhabi lounge was brilliant. Had good food, entertainment a kids area as well. They had shower rooms too and the staff was very nice.
Re: Etihad Airways
Doesn’t mean what bad luck happened with us will going to be happen with u
Maybe you’ll find etihad service one of the best service or maybe not. But one thing is so true that their staff members and very good in behaviour and u’ll see always a smile on their faces whenever you ask for any assistance.
About the baggage, its depend
Like I said my luggages weight was 40kg but they didn’t charged me any while returning from Lahore but they charged me some amount while departing to Lahore.
You can make three small bags of 9kg each with 7kg hand-carry. I think they will not going to charge any extra. In case if they charged that will be very low amount which you can pay easily.
Don’t worry just try this service and let us know what was ur experience.
Good-luck :k:
Re: Etihad Airways
we went to isl from chicago in december in etihad and their service was pretty good including entertainment (especially after i had to take american airlines for another transatlantic trip).
at the time their website indicated an allowance of 23kg limit per person for 1 bag (for free). from the posts above, it sounds like this has not changed and is still 23kg. i always try to make sure that we do not exceed the limit but if we do then we are prepared to pay the extra. they were quite strict at ohare when the bags were being checked in and there was a lady by the entrance of the checkin counter making it clear to the passengers (mainly desis) that make sure you meet the allowance for free checkin (and the bag size for carry on)
if you have any overweight luggage then i would prepare to pay any extra fees.
