Ethnic Nationalism in Pakistan

Re: Ethnic Nationalism in Pakistan

Urdu language is distict from Punjabi.. Our cultural history is rooted in Punjabi. Our poetry, our cultre is rooted in Punjabi.. And regardless of where it came from, its a distinct language. The fact that we arent allowed to speak it, only speaks volumes for the fact that in Pakistan EVERYONE has to put the national language before there own..

Re: Ethnic Nationalism in Pakistan

No Urdu speaking person could understand my dialect of Punjabi/Hindko if its spoken is its most fluent form... Hell even I have a hard time sometimes... Punjabi is a completely different language now. Urdu is if anything, a dialect of Hindi that been mixed with Persian and Arabic..

Re: Ethnic Nationalism in Pakistan

Why not accept that both Urdu and Punjabi are languages in their own right. In INDIA they sometimes use urdu/hindi as hindustani but one must realise that punjabi that is spoken in pakistan has lost its originality.A sikh speaking punjabi woulkd be very difficult to understand as compared to a muslim punjabi of pakistan. The difference between punjabi of east and west punjab is only because of the urdu and hindi influences.Haryana which is a punjabi hindu state has hindi as the official language.

So one must realise that Urdu and Punjabi are differnet languages but nowadays punjabi in pakistan is influenced by urdu and also because of the ill-treatment that it has to face by the punjabis themselves

Thum bhi zara aajawo na thumare upar tho main ek khosorath Pakhtoon charhadoon, tha keh thum bhi maze lelo, theri tho gand main naswaar bhi daloonga begharath ki awlaad, sharam karo begharath kahi ke.

Re: Ethnic Nationalism in Pakistan

ill-treatment? how? punjabis should learn Urdu and speak Urdu only because Urdu is a sweet language, it is a language of high literature and culture, whereas Punjabi is a language of farms and charpoy folk-tales.

Urdu language was developed by Kashmiris: Ghalib was half-Kashmiri, Iqbal was Kashmiri, Chakbast was Kashmiri. The greatest Urdu poets were Kashmiri. It’s something we’ve given to Pakistanis so that they can look up to some high culture. What does Pakistan have indigenously? just a rag-tag collection of folklore and myths to scare little children. It was Iqbal who used Urdu and Persian to propound his profound philosophy.

Re: Ethnic Nationalism in Pakistan

By the way i totally disagree urdu originated from hyderabad deccan and some say that urdu originated someplace in U.P or dehli but not kashmir.Iqbal was a kashmiri by caste only because his grandfather decided to settle permanently at sialkot.Iqbal also wrote in punjabi and persian

Ghalib was from dehli and noway related to kashmir. As far as the history of punjabi is concerned bhullay shah waris shah were well before urdu being developed. One cant deny that if we look today Urdu literature is available more than punjabi and people are more fond of urdu then punjabi but the fault lies with the elite punjabis who neglected their language

Re: Ethnic Nationalism in Pakistan
