They have the concept of "selling" daughters for marriage in parts of southern Punjab too, only it's not really selling, at the end of the day the parents give that money to their daughter anyway or buy something for her with it, it increases her worth in the Susraal (In-Laws) and they respect her more having "bought" her with hard earned money, same in Swat..

The smaller provinces in pakistan feel neglected and they all blame big brother punjab for all the problems that are in the country today.Smaller provinces have this argument that punjab contributes less to the economy and gets a lion share out of the revenue.Most of the Establishment is punjabi and since punjab is the largest povince a prime minister cannot be elected without punjab supporting him.The grievances of the small provinces and other minority ethnic groups can be solved by the division of punjab into 3 or 4 more administrative provinces these can be seraiki potohari and the rest of punjab that includes areas of lahore faisalabad gujranwala etc etc.
The problem that will arise after the division of punjab will be that muhajirs in sindh will demand their province and pashtuns and brohi/brahui will demand separate provinces.Hazara will demand their province.The only solution is to accomodate these parties as well.Division of provinces is not bad for the country but division of country is disaster.God save Pakistan of another 1971

hey kashmiridude this is not the story now this was back in the erly days when we used to have the punjabi mohajir elite these days we have the punjabi-pathan elite.Urdu was imposed by the mohajirs pathans hindko and punjabis on the bengalis.pathans and hazara were a part of imposing urdu but that was political and against bengalis.same guys later with punjabis went against the urdu speaking and then shifted the capital to Islamabad from Karachi one can easily have an idea why the present location of islamabad was selected as location for the capital which is the border region of N.W.F.P and Punjab close to the hazara region.
You dont have to teach them Urdu to have access to Pakhtoon girls… I heard The Mariot Hotel in Islamabad host a good number of them, but only of the Afghan refugee variety…

Answer I think is in more representative democracy with far more autonomy.. Less fedral govt and more local.. We should look to the US sytem, it has a lot of interesting provisions for the states that may be useful..

In my village recently they filled in this huge hole by breaking up an entire hill to fill it.. The workers were all Afghna Pathans… You know what the Paunjabis did all day? They sat around watching the hole get filled ALL day long:hehe:

Not only are the Pakhtoon girls pretty, Pakhtoon boys are more so. Thats why the young Pakhtoon boys are in high demand in Afghanistan after the fall of Taliban, these blach eyed and white cheeked Pakhtoon boys receive lavish gifts from afghan commanders. Many of these gifts are arms they bring back with them to their tribes to keep the Pakhtoon pride.
Many political parties in pakistan have this in their manifesto that only currency,defence and foreign ministry should be given to the federal governmental and the rest to the provinces and further municipal work at the local body level.But who create hurdles in that it is mainly from the punjab who can influence the fedral government.
Punjabi is a dialect of Urdu, if we take Urdu to be a highly evolved literary form of the Great Hindustani Language. An Urduphone person can somewhat understand a Punjabi, although not completely. But then the German language is treated as one language, even though the Swiss German dialect is not intelligible to North Germans. So Punjabis have every interest in promoting Urdu because it is their mother tongue. Punjabi is a dialect not a language.
Punjabi and urdu are different languages only the punjabi script which is used in pakistan that is the shahmukhi is similar to urdu but we all know that urdu script is borrowed from nastalique persian.Sikhs have their own script for punjabi which is the gurumukhi.
Sindhi and Punjabi have many similar words that doesnot make sindhi and punjabi dialects of the same languages.Punjabis in the urban areas and cities dont use punjabi in their homes but in the rural areas which is about 70 percent only punjabi is used for communication.

Exactly Urdu has about as much in common with Punjabi as it does with Bengali... Punjabis are just more concerned about the well being of their nation and don't put petty 'Assabiyyah' before Paki unity..
