Recently an openly atheist posted on this forum trying to explain his view point.
Many people jumped on him and tried to thrash his philosophy by calling it totally rubbish.
One of the major defense of theists is that “Religion teaches ethics and principles to live a pious life.”
One question that comes to mind is that " Whether atheist people are lesser ethical, more criminal or less social in any sense and if there is a proof of such since they have been criticized by theist as lacking a set of principles to lead their lives."
Belief is not what mind possesses, it is what possesses the mind!
Atheists are humans, just as muslims, christians, and others.
There are many atheists who are great human beings. Being good and ethical is not part of any religion’s inheritance. If it were that easy, everyone would adopt the religion that provided him with such nobility.
The difference between an atheist and a believer is that the former will do good for the sake of good, while the believer will do it for the pleasure of Allah (swt). Act is the same, the intention is different.
There is no complusion in religion and as such, non-believers should be treated with due respect. Bigotry has no place in Islam.

This is amazing. Someone else, besides me started a thread regarding atheism. Very interesting.
As for the Moderators of these forums, I guess they can't handle what they don't want to hear. Both threads I started, that are innocent of any steoreotype or hatred were closed. Good job Moderators, keep shutting up people, pretty soon no one will be chatting.
As for the person who started this thread.
I being an Atheist, can say honestly that we are no different than Theists when it comes to moral ethics. In fact, many theists are hypocrites to their own religions, due to the fact they only do good in the fear of God, but not good for the sake of good itself. Atheists however, don't have a "God" to look upon, thus any act committed by an Atheist, is solely independant of the notion of pleasing or displeasing God. An Atheist will do good for the sake of good itself, and in some circumstances that no human is immune from, could do bad, for bad itself.
if we accept the theory that atheists and theists are no different in terms of being ethical and moral in their lives than how and why should we accept that religion changes one's life.
Proponents of religion generally claim that religion presents a set of principles to lead a better life which atheists don't have. How valid is their claim? I don't believe it is much valid although theoretically it is attractive.
