So I hear this interesting story while dozing off in Law class which sparked off a debate. I thought I’d add it here to see what your response would be. . . : )
This story goes like this, there is this new wed couple enjoying the begining of their marriage life. He loves her and she loves him, the time comes where they make a decision to have a baby. A few months pass and no luck, both go threw testing and it turns out that due to high stress levels he wasn’t coming through all the way. It just so happens one day he got this promotion at his job. He calls her up and tells her that he’s getting off work early to come home and celebrate.
So he rushes home through rush hour; running through a signal and wham gets side swiped by a truck.
She waits for him at home all ready for their night. An hour passes, then 3 hours, later a phone call comes from the hospital and her world shatters into a million pieces with that phone call.
The dreaded moment comes where she has to identify him and when she does, she asks the doctors a surprising question.
She asks the doctors if the they can perform a task that is unheard of, She wants to have his child !
Unbelieveable? Believe it
The procedure is done, his sperm is extracted from his lifeless body and she is impregnated.
I find it HIGHLY bizarre, others found it an act of love signifying the newborn legacy of their love.
Ladies: Would you do it, if in the position? Do you find it wrong? and if not then why?
Gents: Being dead and all, you have the right to a proper peaceful burial and even that is taken away from you when the doctor on your wife’s orders decides to get a hold of your manhood and extract semen to impregnate her. Where do you stand on this issue?
well talking as a Human only, its ok. I mean that can be considered as height of love and loyality and many more stuff...
but as being a Muslim, its not allowed to do anything to the DEAD, Even I assume PostMartym( I dont know how to spell) is not allowed..
so its like interfering in GOD's decision..
and As being a Human it can be either way..
as far as I m concerend its a nice gesture to her husband and it really shows her love for him.(considering my self to be a Human only and not Muslim at this time)
Reminds me of the case of a woman called Dianne Blood here in England. After her husband died, she tried to use some of his sperm frozen before his death to become pregnant. The government and health authorities tried to stop her, saying it was unethical, whereupon she took them to court, won the case and now has given birth to a son conceived after his father died....
JeeZ .. thats creepy ! .. neah.. i’d never do that… first of all i wud b too stunned to even think about it .. second.. if he wont b around, y the hell i’d want to raise a child alone!!! … i mean i dunno but the situation is juss to bizzarre ..
I dunno, I think I could do that. I mean, if I was in love with him I'd want his child and his child only...and if this was to be the last opportunity then why not.
the sperm is alive. to me, it's about the same thing as an organ transplant from a dead person. if its ethically sound to extract kidneys, livers, hearts, corneas etc from dead people, extraction of sperms should be alright too. and since the girl was married to the guy, i'd say she has a right to have his baby if she wanted to using the extracted sperm.
Coconut, I probably wouldn’t do it looking at it strictly from the point of view that the child will not have a living biological father. Why deprive the child of that basic right which almost all of us take so much for granted. However, if I felt that strongly about wanting a baby by him and him alone, well I guess nothing is stopping me from going ahead and being impregnated with the sperm, right?!
What it comes down to is that it’s really a personal choice, more so than a moral one.
Your question seems focussed on the desecration of the dead human body. What about he fathering a child without his knowledge. I guess a case can be made that since he is dead so it really doesn't matter, but atleast in our society, this will cause all kinds of problems for inheritance. Or maybe not.
Then the other, and in my mind, the more important issue is the rights of the child. I believe every child has a right to a mother and a father. Now, there may be situations where the couple has disagreements and decide to separate; or one or both parents die due to any cause, but to deliberately bring a child in this world, knowing fully well, that his or her father is already dead, sounds unfortunate.
There are somethings which are beyond our control. Like if the father dies during pregnancy, thats unfortunate but that is something which is beyond the mother's control. However to actually go ahead and impregnate yourself with a baby whose father is dead, seems very selfish on the part of the mother, and unjust for the baby. To prove her love for her husband, the lady should do something which does not involve any innocent child. She could have built a Taj Mahal or something.
iyeak that is disgusting I will prefer to have children from some handsome, strong guy rather than a dead.
But there isnt anything ethically corrupt in the situation posted above.

Solah aaney sach janab ! sachi gaal dassyaa tu, but putter "sperms" sperm da plural nahin hunda !
what if the kids inherit far too underlooked features from somebody in the clan like grandmother etc cuz thats what genetic engineering is about - less space for manipulation and more for randomization..
you took it wrong i would certinaly not be intrested in baby’s looks, its the father’s looks that matters to me :biggthumb bakai rah geeaa baby so his looks are his/her spouse’s business. chahay jis per bhi jay sanon ki
as a loyal wife and a lover...i guess what she did felt right to her, yet the nagging point is that the guy was dead...and when one is dead his body should be immediately buried (or as per other beliefs)
thats the time when ppl should pray for the demised and control one's desires
