Essentials Of Tauheed.

As you know, Tauheed or the Oneness of God is one of the 5 pillars upon which Islam is built, the other 4 being Five daily prayers, Zakkat, Fasting in the month of Ramadan and the Hajj. To make our Tauheed sound, we must MIND and/or OBSERVE the following Essentials:—

  1. To always speak the Truth.
  2. To keep all obligations according to the Quran and Sunnah.
  3. To keep the heart free from hatred.
  4. To avoid forbidden food.
  5. To shun innovations, and
  6. To be satisfied with Allah Most High in scarcity and plenty, and turn to Him in happiness or affliction.
May Allah Ta’ala keep us in perpetual Imaan…ameen.

Peace Abu Fauzi

JazakAllahu khair for the points ...

Please note:

a) Tawheed is not the first pillar of Islam (outward actions of submission) that is Shahadah (To bear witness to Allah in His Unique Deity and Prophet Muhammad (SAW) as His Last Messenger ...) You have written a nice set of points about what basic characteristics a mo'imin has.

b) There are 6 pillars of 'iman - (which is to do with the state of belief) - To believe in Allah, the angels, the Books, the Messengers, The Day of Judgment, that all Good and Bad come from Him (The sanction of Allah)

c) The belief in Allah is qualified against what we call Tawheed and that is split in three main parts (Raboobiya, Uloohiya and Al-Asma-Wa-Sifaat).

When you say "to make our Tauheed sound ..." that in effect is saying "to make us true to our beliefs" ... in which case really you are showing how one can progress from being a Muslim to one who is a Mo'min.

Could you please translate those terms?

According to Al-Fiqh al-Akbar (which is a major book for Hanafi fiqh) footnotes these terms are not authentic and Tawheed should be considered a set of indistinguishable elements without subcategories. Alas, I still feel these have some value and they can be found in the books by some Saudi scholars. These are that the monotheistic aspects of belief lie in the Lordship (Raboobiya), Worship (Uloohiya) and The Names and The Titles of Allah (SWT) (Al-Asma-Wa-Sifaat) ... However this criteria is not part of the earliest creedal formulations.
