Re: Essentials for First Time Parents

Buy 8 ounce bottles and newborn nipples. When baby grows older just change the nipples to an older size. Nipples are cheaper than bottles.

I bought tons of clothes because I don’t like to do a lot of laundry all the time and I like to dress up my babies. Also, I had skinny babies whose clothes lasted a longer time. I would suggest buy a few newborn clothes 6 outfits and then 5-6 0-3 months ones.

Thanks eastern for help:)

Re: Essentials for First Time Parents

a diaper genie is a special kind of a garbage can designed to hold baby’s dirty diapers.

Re: Essentials for First Time Parents

well the answer is in the title/name of the product .. LOL!
these are absorbent bibs. babies become extra drool y while teething and these bibs are used to catch the drool and keep the kid dry.

Re: Essentials for First Time Parents

Don’t buy lots of wipes, they dry up. I did stock up before hand on wipes and diapers but bought wipes at the end and only 2-3 boxes that I used after the 6 week mark. Before that I used cotton balls and Walter. Buy diapers in different sizes. I bought Huggins and pampers in the beginning but switched to Walmart brand afterwards ( I am in the US).

Face towels are not needed but buy at least 4-5 bath towels. You can also buy wash cloths. One pack is fine. Also buy nail clippers and a thermometer to keep on hand just in case.

Re: Essentials for First Time Parents

Thanks. What is wash clothes? I heard about changing pads also. And which size should I buy for clothes newborn or 3-6 months.?

Re: Essentials for First Time Parents

Wash cloths are like tiny towels. You soap them and use them on baby during a bath. You can use your hands too but I like wash cloths. Buy newborn for the first 6 weeks or so then 0-3 months then 3-6 months. Obviously this depends upon how big your baby is and how fast he or she grows but for an average sized baby who grows normally these are the norms. My daughter wS born 8 lbs 5 iz but I still bought 2-3 premie sized outfits for her because even newborn ones were too big.

Changing pads are a life saver. Put them under baby before diaper changes and for baths. Until the cord falls off you should not put baby in a bath tub but give sponge baths. The changing pads prevent the carpet or mattress from getting wet.

Re: Essentials for First Time Parents

Anyone have any recommendations on high chairs?

Is it better to have a proper high chair or chair topper?

Re: Essentials for First Time Parents

I have both. Initially, I was using the booster, he started giving me hard time, I decided to get the high chair, he loves his chair and we too love the chair we have. Its a graco product. Tray completely comes off, very easy for a toddler to climb and get off. Clean up is super easy too.
The booster chair is at parents, he uses it when we are there.
In short, try the booster, if it doesn’t work, get the high chair.

Re: Essentials for First Time Parents

Keep tags on the stuff and save the receipts, in case you feel the need of returning items later as your baby doesn’t like it or you got too many similar items in gifts.

Re: Essentials for First Time Parents

thanks alot eastern . i want to ask about body wraps how much will be ok ? and diapers i want to buy newborn diapers but dont know quantity becoz i think it will not fit after few weeks .

Re: Essentials for First Time Parents

I had a small pack of new born. That was enough.

Re: Essentials for First Time Parents

What are body wraps? If you meant swaddling blankets then buy 2-3, buy 2 packets of newborn diapers initially. You will likely need more but it’s better to be safe. The newborn diaper packets are small anyway. They contain less diapers.

Re: Essentials for First Time Parents

Ok thanks:) yeah that swaddling blankets.

Re: Essentials for First Time Parents

Baby thermometers and nasal aspirators…should I get the digital kind or are the ones that come in newborn care kits good enough?

I need to wrap up basic baby shopping this weekend…so trying to come up with a list.

Re: Essentials for First Time Parents

I found the digital ear thermometer to be a really useful purchase.

I like the digital temple touch and even better the no contact thermometers (pricier) … but think long term … beyong baby stage … sick n cranky toddlers are harder to hold down for a temp check …
I use the no contact type at home.
