I don’t know if anyone here watched the BBC show ‘Pakistani Actually’ but I’m just passing on a message here from somebody who contacted Saf Manzoor who did the second documentary called Luton ‘Actually’. If you want to see the show get repeated call BBC on 0208 743 8000 to ask if there are any plans to repeat the programme.
For the record I thought it was great. I don’t know if there has been any threads here as it was a while back but basically there was a mixture of ordinairy Pakistani Brits, both celebrities and Average Jav’s giving a very unique and perspective. Amir Khan was on, so was some bloke called Jeff Mirza (I don’t know who he is either but he explained very eloquently why Goodness gracious Me is utter bollocks).
There was a female journalist, can’t remember her name (Tazmin Ahmed?) and also writer Hanif Qureishi among others including Norman Tebbit of all people. The star turn was Aki Nawaz though from Fun-Da-Mental who’ll have had a few viewers choking on their pie and chips.
there was a thread opened by some lad called Neely about this, its in culture forum.
Jeff Mirza is one of those stand up comedy people, i think he writes for one of those Asian Newspapers...the Eastern Eye? i divent na...i may be making this up....
Just found that thread in Culture by Neely. Some interesting views by Sobi and Miss mohabbat, and the usual long-winded pretentious Thap Crap. I'm sure he was saying something there but I wasn't about to get my thesaurus about to work out what exactly. I thought it was a very real programme and made a nice change from seeing the Iqbal Sacranie's pontificating about Islam while standing meekly next to Blair like a pet poodle.
Anyone outside the UK I think you'd find it good and informative. Best stuff about Brit Pakis since East is East.
Xtreme, Kasam sai mene tumhe itna miss kiya kai tum pooche khi math (interpretation: I love you na )
I actually emailed Saf after the programme - he read that thread in culture1, and thought Thap was a bit of a prick. he was also offended by the way everyone kept referring to him as the bloke with the ‘big hair’
I asked him to start posting on Gupshup, but he declined, saying he was too busy for faltoo time pass activities like Gupshup. he then asked me to marry him. I declined, naturally.
Ehsan, you so owe me one. So what if I was a crap mod, I’m making up for it by going around advertising Gupshup to famous people for free.
