i first eqbal mehdi back in 1984, when one of my new friends introduced me to him.
I used to sketch, mostly portraits, in pencil. Then i had recently started penwork.
My friend took one of my penwork portrait, of Samiullah (hockey star of those days),
and showed it to eqbal mehdi, and asked him if i could come and see him working.
He agreed.
Although, very busy in my office work, where i had had to work late mostly, i used to
visit eqbal mehdi, every now and then, whensoever i could get some time.
He always asked me to observe him working, which i always did.
Our this somewhat formal, somewhat informal meeting started when he was using
a room as his studio, near jilani manzil, in nazimabad. I used to live in nazimabad number3, which was not too very far. So i could visit him usually on weekends.
But later on, when he shifted to another house, near the Shipowner college, i could not
visit him with that frequency.
Later on in 1991 i left Pakistan for good, and could not meet eqbal mehdi anymore.
