I recently had a flare up (for the first time) of what seems like some ezcema, so I started searching online for remedies.
I have heard of epsom salts soaks before for skin healing but never investigated fully.
I bought a 1kg amount online as I could not find it in the few stores I called and did not have time to shop around.
Now, I don’t really do baths. I’m a shower person. I tried a few times as a teenager but I’d feel faint and nauseous when getting up, so I thought ‘eh, not again’. Well, I had to face my fear of baths. Filled up the tub and added 200g of the Epsom Salts and got in. I get bored easily, so I don’t think I spent more than 20mins. Also, I got up really slowly and felt fine.
Result - I will definitely be doing this on a weekly basis. My skin in the area of ezcema was no longer itchy. As an awesome bonus, my skin is SO soft and smooth; I couldn’t believe it. There was no need to moisturise afterwards. My knees and elbows which are kind of dark, no matter how much I take care of them, were noticeably lighter.
Magnesium Sulphate reduces inflammation and can also be used as a dehydrating agent for boils and abscesses (on searching, I found you can buy a paste from Boots for this purpose).
As well as skin conditions such as ezcema and psoriasis, I imagine it would be effective if you suffer from bikini line problems due to waxing (although Laser hair removal should clear this up entirely).
Apparently you can also mix some Epsom Salts with Olive Oil for a skin exfoliator, or just rub it directly on the skin. Given how effective just bathing in dissolved salts was, I will definitely be trying this.
