Epilator/Bumps on Arms

heyy everyone…i need MAJOR help!

I have been using the epilator (phillips) on my arms for a few years now and I keep getting these bumps on my arms…like my arms are not smooth..any remedies?

I am using aloe vera gel at the moment but it isn’t helping. I do not want to start waxing because it takes longer and you have to wait for the hair to be longer and since I wear a lot of short-sleeved tops I don’t think it would be a good look.

Thanks.

Re: Epilator/Bumps on Arms

there is no remedy, this is just a side effect of the way epilator's work. they are prone to break most hairs or the hairs that are ripped out are haphazardly so. most people don't notice the bumps or ingrown hairs until about year of using them. they seem great in the beginning, nice smooth skin etc. if you do an internet search you will find a lot of stories about this. i stopped using my epilator more than a year ago now, and i'm someone who had my first epilator more than 10 years ago! waxing is far superior.

really, it's just best to wax or shave if you want smooth arms. if you go and get waxed professionally or get a wax heater and salon waxes for yourself, you should be able to wax hair that is 3mm (if not less) long. just shave in between and get waxed now and again!

if you don't want to give it up, just exfoliate very regularly, that should help. but i would still recommend binning it.

^ thanks! ...i really don't want to shave but I think i'm going to have to start waxing because I hate the bumps from the epilator.

Re: Epilator/Bumps on Arms

i personally only tried epilator once and quit on it. waxing is the best method, you gotta make a few compromises somewhere, with the epilator you have the bumps , breaking hair and ingrowths. With waxing you just have to wait until the hair grows back long enough to be waxed off again :p

I think when you do the comparison of pros/cons, waxing wins ;)

The epilator causes ingrown hair, which can cause bumps =) Remember to exfoliate before removing hair.. it releases the hair follicles trapped under the skin..and once u're done with waxing/threading/epilator always close u're pores by applying a good quality alcohol-free astringent.

If u're skin is aggravated, apply equal portions of cucumber juice and rosewater.

:k: although shaving is really not a bad option. it’s just a myth that it makes hair grow back thicker (if that’s what you are worried about). it just cuts the hair off at a thicker part which makes the hair blunt at the end and therefore appear thicker when it grows out. i wax, then shave the patchy regrowth until i see that’s there’s enough hair to be waxed again, let it grow out to a wax-able length, then wax again.

anyway, i don’t know what the hell the bumps are about. everyone seems to get bumpy skin not caused by in-growns (as well as the ingrown ones)… must be some kind of irritation.
