Epilation - Ladies Only !!

Hello pretty ladies =)

I’m facing dillemma right now and hope you ladies can help out .. So I’m about to get married in a month .. and I’ve heard that bikini wax is really good and you can be hair free for weeks to come ..

But .. I don’t want to go to any salon for the waxing because it would be very embarrassing and messy ..and I can’t wax at home ..it would be tooo painful and a difficult process :frowning: I’ve tried to find some reviews of epilators .. but it wasn’t of much help ..

It would be great if you could help me out and I need some reviews what effects can epilation have on that area …

No bride would want to end up with bumps, ingrown hair and worst of all – rash :bummer: Help Ladies !!

Re: Epilation - Ladies Only !!

I wouldn't recommend epilating that area. Waxing is way better. Epilation can cause rashes and ingrown hair...it's SO uncomfortable, trust me!! You can try waxing at home. Use ice to numb the area first so it doesn't hurt as much?

Re: Epilation - Ladies Only !!

^ i agree, epilation causes ingrown hair! Salon is the best option. Then there are girls who come to your place and do it. You can do it yourself too, trust me its not at all painful.
Waxing is the best option for being hair free :)

Re: Epilation - Ladies Only !!

anybody that says it's not painful is misleading you. it is painful but you can minimize by taking an aspirin 30 minutes beforehand as well as icing the area to be waxed.
but the benefit, the feeling of being so very "clean" is definitely worth it!!!

Epilators are not very good! Get waxed, it's so much better and it takes ages for the hair to grow back. It's really not that embarrassing, I always ask the same lady to do it - which helps a lot I think!

Re: Epilation - Ladies Only !!

OMG, I am a wax virgin and I have booked myself for body wax for weddings, well two days before (thats what my salon ppl said). I am so nervous for that and I have very low pain tolerance. :( Any thing to make my experience painless?

I have braun silk epil epilator but so far its been like a decoration in my wardrobe. dont have a nerve to use it. other things fine but no no epilation or wax!

Re: Epilation - Ladies Only !!

Go to a salon and ask them to use a numbing spray several minutes before they wax you. Yeah it can be very painful but it's also in the technique of the person doing it.

I agree with other posters who said waxing is the best option.

Re: Epilation - Ladies Only !!

Two days are not enough if u havent done waxing before...what if ur skin reacts/errpts badly? I'd suggest at least a week if u have sensitive skin, or 4 5 days so ur skin has time to be calm ...

Epilation - Ladies Only !!

U can use wax stripes , its really very easy to use. Epilation for the first time it reaalllyy hurts more than wax. I had tried epilation several times its really painful on that area. Wax is way more less painful so go for wax.

Re: Epilation - Ladies Only !!

no, dude, two days beforehand is no good! like majesty said, definitely a week before, or ideally, book one for yourself now so you can see how your skin reacts and have a backup plan just in case.

Re: Epilation - Ladies Only !!

aspirin? seriously?

it actually does not hurt that much and i speak from experience. But then maybe i am just a person who sucks it all in and goes with bravado. But Aspirin? That's a bit much. All my friends get waxing done too and none of them take Aspirin or even a numbing spray. Maybe our wax wali is really good.

Re: Epilation - Ladies Only !!

if you are in Karachi, i can send you my wax wali’s number but she will only go Defence, Clifton, Saddar and M.T.Khan Road. Nothing beyond that as she lives in Korangi and is a parent with young kids. She has been doing waxing on me and my friends since a decade now and she is a pro which means minimal pain.

Re: Epilation - Ladies Only !!

I would not recommend epilating. Sometimes it breaks the hair instead of taking it out from the root, and you end up with in growns. And I dont know if the machine can reach all those tiny spaces down there.

Waxing is not as bad as people say. Yes it does hurt the first few times, but not so much that you are going to scream or faint. And yes, it is embarrassing the first couple times as well, but if you keep going to the same person, it becomes almost normal. I promise!

I suggest you get it done once now (if you have atleast 2 months between now and your wedding), so you know what to expect, and you know how your skin reacts to it as well. The last thing you want is a rash or irritation on your wedding.

Re: Epilation - Ladies Only !!

once you have had it done a few times of course it doesn't hurt......but for a first timer I would definitely not deceive her.......

I've never taken the aspirin myself since my "wax wali" is amazing....she has the softest touch.....but I've heard her recommend it to others that were afraid and wanted to start.

Re: Epilation - Ladies Only !!

I guess I am just lucky then to have a great wax wali. :) even the first time I got it done, the pain was like 98% less than what I was anticipating. :)

Re: Epilation - Ladies Only !!

but that’s the idea…to set the expectations high and then have a pleasant experience… :faizy:

Here are some great tips:

Reduce waxing pain? Yes you can! The first time getting waxed in an area hurts the most and does get less painful each time after. Hard to believe when your hair has just been ripped out for the first time, but it’s true. Here are some simple steps you can take to reduce waxing pain, whether you have been waxed before or not.

  1. Do dull the nerves
Prior to waxing apply something to numb the skin like No Scream Cream. Take an aspirin or ibuprofen about 30 - 45 minutes before your wax. This is especially helpful when getting waxed above the lip, chest, bikini and genital areas- which top the list as the most pain-provoking areas.

  2. Do seek a professional
It doesn’t mean just anybody licensed (like an esthetician or cosmetologist), but someone also experienced. They will use the wax best suited for the hair, apply the right thickness of wax, hold the skin taut, and pull in the right direction. Important for any waxing but more crucial when receiving a bikini wax, especially a brazilian.

  3. Do reduce acidity
Smoking and regular caffeine and alcohol comsumption creates a lot of acid in the body’s system. You might benefit from taking something like Tums 20 minutes before your service to reduce acidity and therefore reduce skin’s sensitivity.

  4. Do use a body scrub
While the skin on the face is generally exfoliated enough in terms of waxing, the body needs a little extra help. A somewhat gritty body scrub will help rid dead cells around skin pores and hair follicle, providing an easier exit. Made for use before waxing, try Relax and Wax Scrub Me Luscious Lemon Drop which won’t leave the skin greasy or oily and helps prevent ingrown hair.

  5. Don’t apply astringent or toner
These tighten the pores and can make a firmer hold on the hair follicle. So hold off right before waxing.

  6. Don’t use ice for numbing
You might think that ice would be great to numb skin and reduce waxing pain. But applying anything cold to the skin tightens pores. It’s the same principle as above, we want pores nice and relaxed.

  7. Don’t drink a lot of caffeine or alcohol
While having a couple glass of wine or beer before getting waxed sounds like a great idea, stimulants in the system can cause skin to be extra sensitive to waxing. Give yourself a couple hours after drinking coffee or alcohol before getting waxed. Instead, drink a lot of water to hydrate your body and skin.

  8. Don’t think waxing at home will be easy
It’s hard to do on yourself, and will really hurt if you don’t know what you’re doing.

  9. Don’t tense up
Some people hold their breath or tense their whole body while getting waxed. While it might be easier said than done, breathe deeply, a relaxed person will cope much better with the pain.

  10. Don’t wax where you shouldn’t
The inside of ears and nose, eyelashes, nipples and male genitals shouldn’t be waxed. Don’t try waxing over sun-burned or irritated skin, warts, moles, cuts or pimples. Not only is it dangerous, but it could give you some mighty big pain.

Re: Epilation - Ladies Only !!

Would wax stripes be good enough for thicker hair ?

Re: Epilation - Ladies Only !!

I've tried it once it didn't work out and I'm too scared to try it again :(

Re: Epilation - Ladies Only !!

Do they use numbing sprays before waxing in Pakistan -- specifically Lahore ?

Re: Epilation - Ladies Only !!

Can the hair regrow in a week if they are much thicker ?

Where is this wax wali based ? .. I wouldn’t be comfortable to have a wax wali at home before wedding around all the relatives in the house .. as it is considered to be a taboo to get waxed by someone else even if they are getting waxed themselves :bummer:
