epilating facial hair??

has anyone tried it??
what can be the possible consequences…if ur using a good specially designed epilator for facial hair..

Re: epilating facial hair??

It can distort the growthof the hair follilcles and over time you will most likely get a lot of ingrowns. In some cases, you can make the growth thicker too (but that goes for any root removal, such as waxing or threading).

I’m against any root removal on the face or neck (better to save up for electrolysis) but if you have to wax or thread is better.

I’ve said the same thing independently on another forum (from experience with my legs) but just to show I’m not the only one that says this:

Re: epilating facial hair??

okay out of threading and waxing...what is the better option for facial hair...

Re: epilating facial hair??

I want to get laser done for my facial hair because now it has become bother some but someone told me that there are two kinds of laser one where there is something like a spark that comes from a iron looking thingie and theres another one that has needle thing - My aunt who got the second one done said that the first one didn’t work for her hair but the second one did and she doesn’t need to get her face waxed or threaded…so first i wanted to know the name of that and secondly which do you think is better for thick hair since mine are pretty thick…and you seem to know a lot about all this stuff but please thora asan samjhana…

Re: epilating facial hair??

The first is laser and the second is electrolysis. They are completely different methods of hair removal.

Laser is classified by the FDA as permanent hair reduction as it cannot eliminate all types of hair - only hair which is thick and dark (has a lot of pigment in it). So even if you do it on the arms or legs, you cannot get rid of 100% of the hair, but a decent enough reduction depending on the hairs. Laser on the face has other complications which I go through in the following thread.
You can read my Laser guide here: http://www.paklinks.com/gs/fashion-and-beauty/474179-laser-hair-removal-what-to-know.html
Here is the wikipedia page for the scientific information on what Laser is - Laser - Wikipedia
So in hair removal, a handpiece is used that directs the Laser spot on to the skin. The light energy is absorbed by the hair, which generates heat and damages the follicle, hopefully enough to destroy it’s hair producing capability. Usually on the newer/better machines, it has a spot size of minimum 12mm. There are two main types of Laser that emit light at different wavelengths - one that is suitable for white skin and the other that is suitable for tan and darker skin. Laser type and machine brand are really important in Laser treatments.

Electrolysis is a completely different form of hair removal. It can be completely permanent as it can eliminate any kind and colour of hair and will work on any skin type. In electrolysis, a needle in inserted in the follicle. A current passes through the needle to damage follicle. There are 3 types of electrolysis, but only two are now widely used. One is called thermolysis and uses an AC current to produce heat which damages the follicle. The other is called Blend and uses both an AC current (the thermolysis current) and a DC current competent that produces lye in the follicle that aids in damage. Blend is slower but a lot of electrologists prefer it because it is kinder to the skin (if used properly) and easier to perform. Thermolysis can work very well/just as well too, but it’s harder to get the results (i.e. minimal reaction on client skin, sufficient damage of the follicle) so less electrologists are as skilled in it.
With electrolysis, it’s very important to understand the process and find a good electrologist. Otherwise it can be ages before you realise you are wasting money on treatments that aren’t working. Or the electrologist is leaving your skin looking like hell and tells you it’s normal.
For example, my aunt was sucked in by her waxing lady who said ‘oh yea I do electrolysis too’. This woman had no clue what she was doing, could not insert the needle properly (was just stabbing her skin) and didn’t even know to tell my aunt that for electrolysis to be effective, she has to stop waxing/plucking. God knows whether she was even using a real electrolysis machine. My aunt had no clue about the process either and thought the pain was normal. Only when I found all this out and found her a REAL electrologist and she had a consultation, did she realise how much of a sham the other lady was. You’re not supposed to feel the needle go in the follicle! Although, you will feel pain/discomfort when the current is passed; experienced electrologists generally perform this which the shortest possible gap though.

I have blend performed on my face and thermolysis on the body areas where the hair is too fine for laser. For example, I got about 80% reduction on the underarms with laser, then switched to electrolysis to remove the rest of the hairs.

In my opinion, doesn’t matter if the hairs are thick or thin, if you want to treat the face, electrolysis is a much better option.

Re: epilating facial hair??

Really depends how much facial hair you have, before you jump into waxing, threading and epilating. Personally I would do none of these. Laser is a good option, but I have seen people doing it for + 2 years and still not been able to get ride of all the hair, plus I have seen people getting the same or heavier growth after two years time after being hair free. So personally I have not opted for any of these for now, but maybe some day I might do laser.

BUT.. for now I burn my facial hair. Very easy and non-expensive, I do it about every 3rd month. You can do it at home, all you need is a machis, light and a mirror. You burn it by "brushing" your hair in the oppposite of the hairgrowth and then giving "dohaan" from the aag. And I bleach my face about 3 times a year.. mostly after 4 weeks of burning the hair.

Re: epilating facial hair??

Hi Sweetmoi - This is precisely why I don't recommend Laser for the face as the best option. Anything that is not gone after 1 year of treatment (providing settings were correct etc) is not going to be eliminated with Laser. Sometimes people find absolutely no improvement after they stop, as all the hair comes back. This is because clinics keep having them come back every 4-6 weeks (which is too soon), so no one is able to assess if it's working properly and those ladies are just grateful to have to hair free periods they are granted between their appointments.
The heavier regrowth is due to Laser induced growth, which I mention in the Laser thread.

Re: epilating facial hair??

This is the first time I,ve heard of anyone burning their hair…:hmmm:

Re: epilating facial hair??

Thats good info. My bff has been doing laser job on her face and neck, she used to have a lot of hair, which is of course reduced now, but she still has patches of hair. Her laser deal was such that she paid 8 sessions (like an year) and then they gave her free sessions for two years, which is ending now and she still has patches where she is not hair free. I have adviced her to look up your posts, because IMO she is wasting money if she continues.

Re: epilating facial hair??

I was just as skeptical as you in the beginning. My mother has been doing it in her young days, but she does not have a lot of hair to begin with. I on the other hand are cursed with hair from my father haha .. and I have been doing it for 2 years now and I feel there its great, because somehow my hairs do not grow out as fast as before, plus they are much thinner than before. Another advantage is that nobody notices the hair coming back. I still dont do it myself, always have my mother or sister do it, because I am scared to burn myself (yes, what a chicken) but my sisters and mother do it themselves and MA no “side effects” as such.

Re: epilating facial hair??

epilating facial hair :|

it's a chore to do my arms and legs, but facial hair and that too, epilating!? meeeeeeeeeeeep.

Re: epilating facial hair??

Thanks for the Information, Do you know how I can find out whose good at doinf electrolysis and whose just ripping me off…though you mentioned a very good point that I will keep in mind that the needle shouldn’t hurt the current should…

Re: epilating facial hair??

Sorry I never answered teelo. I will write a proper post about electrolysis when I have time.

Re: epilating facial hair??

Break outs? i dont dare to touch mine becuase i know i would break out.

Re: epilating facial hair??

really? can that be done??

Re: epilating facial hair??

So I'm in a bit of a dilemma here... I'm getting married in the spring and my electrologist recommended getting one-time thermolysis done on the peach fuzz on my cheeks instead of waxing. I've only ever waxed my cheeks once or twice before, and the hair is super-fine and doesn't really bother me. I'm debating whether the extra $$ is worth it in terms of a one-time thermolysis session..or whether I should just get it waxed...any thoughts???

Re: epilating facial hair??

hey dora, i also had the peachy fuzz on my cheeks, didn't get it waxed or removed for my wedding. Just got it bleached during wedding preps. To be honest, my hubby didn't even notice it, and when the bleach wore off he still didn't notice it. i don't bleach or remove it anymore. It doesn't bother me or him. If it doesn't bother you or your fiance, don't get it removed, it will just lead to you spending a lot of money and having to do it forever
