Did you get injected with an epidural or anyone you know got it? How was the experience? Any side effects? I am in UK, any experiences from here?
Re: Epidural - Yayy or Nay?
I had it and alhamdulilah no side effects, atleast nothing that I am aware of.
Re: Epidural - Yayy or Nay?
I got it too. Honestly, it made labor so much easier I can’t imagine going another route. No side effects (from what I understand, they’re pretty rare, with the exception of a headache)
Re: Epidural - Yayy or Nay?
I got it and then I was in heaven allhumdullah no side effects
Re: Epidural - Yayy or Nay?
I had it.. my blood pressure dropped, was given oxygen, i was shivering, started hearing voices, baby’s heart rate fluctuated- I remember nurses and midwives changing my side while nodding their head in no and I ended up with c section within 15 mins of getting the epidural. I dont know if its related or not but I got epidural at 8 cm and things went down pretty fast after that. I may have had c section anyway but lets say I havent regretted getting epi because by that time pain was unbearable and no matter how they tried to convince me to go without epi, I knew I couldnt do it anymore.
Re: Epidural - Yayy or Nay?
i had an epidural. it took a little too well because i couldn’t move my body below my chest for almost the entire 15 hours i was in labour plus a few hours after the c-sec. they barely gave me additional anesthesia before my c-section because i was already so numb! the first night after my c-sec, like gtg, i had very low blood pressure. they pumped me full of fluids to bring the pressure back up. i don’t know if this was epidural related or not. i was doing well the next morning but omg, all that fluid made my feet swell up into balloons. i wear a size 8 and walked out of hospital in size 10 flip flops because my feet were so swollen. that was one of the worst things ever, i have to say. it was painful and the skin was stretched so taut that it honestly felt like my feet were going to burst. i had a pretty miserable recovery from my c-sec, exacerbated by issues with breast feeding, a very painful scar to deal with, not being able to walk or even sit for long periods of time, and mastitis. i do NOT want to have a c-sec again insh’Allah next time around whenever that is. i’d rather opt for a vbac but despite the blood pressure issues, i still say epidural zindabad because frankly without it was way too painful for me to bear.
gtg, i’m impressed that you made it to 8cms without!
Re: Epidural - Yayy or Nay?
lol sgc.. I was in back labor for 36 hours, made it to the hospital at 4 and then I dilated pretty fast.. like 1 cm an hour so technically I was horribly in pain for 3-4 hours before I crashed and asked for epi… I may have had done it if I wasnt afraid of pushing.. I didnt want to do that without epi.. yep all in my head ![]()
I was swollen too… I was GBS positive so they had started fluids on me as soon as I reached hospital… I dont have good pics after giving birth ![]()
Epidural - Yayy or Nay?
I did not have an epidural with my first son. I was induced with pitocin, and told that since it was my first, it would probably be about 12-15 hours…from the time they started the drip to the time I hit about 4 cm was 20-25 minutes. They manually broke my water and then it went super fast from there. My whole labor was about 3 1/2 hrs..no epidural, no episiotomy, no anything..completely natural. I have a pretty high threshold/tolerance for pain and after years of enduring debilitating endometriosis, I was able to deal with labor with just breathing techniques and a lot of cursing, lol! I’m told I nearly strangled my husband at one point when I grabbed him by the collar ![]()
With my twins, I was supposed to have a double c section, but Baby A was in a big hurry to make his entry and came vaginally (again, totally natural), but they had to do an emergency c section to get Baby B out since both amniotic sacs had broken already. Had a complete spinal block where I was numbed from the neck down.
I had massive blood pressure issues immediately after the twins being born, considering they were 7 1/2 weeks early and it was a vaginal & c section, so I was in the hospital a few days longer than normal…my high bp continued for about 3 months, but went back to normal after that. Overall, I recovered pretty well, no problems post c section or delivery.
Re: Epidural - Yayy or Nay?
i wanted it but when i got to hosp i was already 8cm dialated… so they didnt give me it.
Re: Epidural - Yayy or Nay?
I had it both times. No side effects.
Re: Epidural - Yayy or Nay?
LOL me too!!!
My 2nd time I even slept for hours
I woke up when I was 10cm and ready to push ![]()
Re: Epidural - Yayy or Nay?
hehehe same here, night before I was given injection for sleep it was so strong I didn’t realize my waterbag broke n after few hours doc was making me up k time to push and I was like han acha time ho gaya ![]()
Re: Epidural - Yayy or Nay?
I had it and made labour much easier to deal with. Only side effect was my left leg was frozen (so bad I could hardly move it) but a few hours after delivery it was much better and by the next day it was completely back to normal. I would take this side effect any day over the pain of going through a natural birth. I was in labour for 54 hours…so yes I definitely needed the epi !
Re: Epidural - Yayy or Nay?
i had it too . im hoping not to get it the next time. Since it was my first child, i got scared of the pain and decided to take the epidural at 4 cm. Alhumdulilah , i didnt get any side effects but it slowed down the whole process for a long time. it seemed like the nurses had forgotten me lol.
Re: Epidural - Yayy or Nay?
I didn’t get it! Had a 9 hr labour but alhumdulillah everything went well. I won’t get it text time either. I just couldn’t get over the fact that it goes in your spine. yikes!
Re: Epidural - Yayy or Nay?
I got it after they broke my water. I was in a lot of pain after they broke my water, and when I got the epidural it was such a relief. And it didnt hurt getting it. I think the IV they put in my wrist hurt a lot more than getting the epidural. The only part of the epidural that hurt a little bit was the numbing needle they gave. But unfortunately my epidural only worked on my left side. I could feel everything on my right side. And each time the anesthesiologist would increase the dose to try to get it to work on the right side, it would just numb my left side even more, and only give me slight relief on the right for about an hour. That being said, I would still get it again!
Re: Epidural - Yayy or Nay?
with the first one, i was 8cam and didnt ask for it but ended up with c section with epidural.
with 2nd pain was so bad my whole labour was 4hours but very intense. i asked they wouldnt but eventually did as i had c section before. but it didnt really work. only reduced pain by about 30%.
i alaways thought epidural works but didnt for me.
i do have slight pain in my back now all the time.
Re: Epidural - Yayy or Nay?
absolutely go for the epidural .. its a life saver , I tell you .. cant imagine popping the baby out without it ! no side effects ..
Epidural - Yayy or Nay?
Yayy for sure!! I got it at 8cm after suffering for 10 hours coz anaesthetist was busy in surgery! Within 2 hours after I had my baby. Wish I had it sooner it’s a really brilliant medical invention! No side effects Allhumdulilah. (I had a vacuum delivery and had to b cut aswell so lucky I had the epidural)
