I have the following system:
X2 3800+ @ stockspeed= 2,0 ghz
1.5 gb of ram
7200 rpm HD
ATI HD3650 graphic card
For some odd reason i cant play mkv (High definition files) fluent. Is my system underpowered? It should be enough because the graphic card has a hardware video decoder. Any ideas guys?
If your computer powers up, your OS loads up and doesnt restart randomly, that should mean that you have a sufficient enough PSU.
To play .mkv files, you need the matroska decoder installed on your OS. If you’re using windows XP/Vista, I’d reccomend you to download the ‘k-lite codec pack’ from here :
Free-Codecs.com : Download K-Lite Codec Pack 4.1.7 FULL, K-Lite Codec Pack 4.1.7 STANDARD, K-Lite Codec Pack 3.8.0 BASIC : K-Lite Codec Pack is a collection of codecs and related tools
It’ll install ffdshow, xvid, divx, matroska and virtually every other codec that you’ll ever need. You should be able to play .mkv files once its installed.
Hope that helps.
JazakAllah khair brother Abdel,
I already had the matroska codec installed. I tried several reinstall but of no avail. I have had a high end motherboard but i v never managed to get it stable (M2N32 SLI deluxe+wifi)
I wasnt planning to ugrade the system because I m going on a holiday in a few weeks. :D But I v decided to upgrade anyway because the whole system is getting slower by the day and I need it for my projects :(
Re: Enough power?
^^ perhaps your machine is infected with ad/spywares or some trojan/viruses. try to get it cleaned first before thinking for an upgrade..
try this Security Task Manager - Windows XP process viewer
try Windows defender and Lavashoft Adware remover or any other antispyware application.
JazakAllah khair CoolBreeze.
After selling my rig and buying a quadcore I have found the problem. The M2n32sli deluxe motherboard was the evil one. The combination of memory slots I was using was problematic. Also the audio hardware onboard was full of errors. Paid 180 euros for that a year ago :o
But found out a little late. :D
Bought a quadcore with a new motherboard and ram :D Installing at the moment.
Thanks once again for your help :D
