There is a chance that Michael Vaughan could miss the eintire series. What do you guys think about that? Obviously that would mean advantage Pakistan. But from a cricket fan point of view do you think it will be good. I personally would like Vaughan to play. Primarily because he is an inspiratoinal leader and under him English team is more threatning and it will be fun to watch a stronger english side challenging us and secondly because this series has gained alot of popularity due to the fact that English has just beaten australia. If Pakistan beats England (inshallah) without Vaughan, the bristish will whine that england missed their leader and therefore suffered. So my opinion is that it will be disappointing if Vaughan will miss the series or even a single match. What do you guys think?
Re: England without Vaughan, Good or Bad?
I personally really dont care about english media whinning or not if Vaughan does miss the series. Many teams miss key players and they just have to learn to deal with it. India missed the services of Sahin Tendulkar due to tenniss elbow for a while, Shane Bond was missed by the Kiwis, Pakistan have regularly missed fit fast bowlers but as a professional outfit you have to take these things in your stride and try to make the best oout of the situation.
Vaughan is a lot more important to England as a cpatain then as a batsman. But he still is also a key batsman. English batting reserves, despite having a very good domestic circuit is surprisingly thin. I recently read, despite his sluggish form the reality is Ian Bell is one of the best batsmen in county cricket. Those county batsman need ot realize playing agaisnt world class bowler in a first class match is a lot different then in an international game. Vaughan's injury is a double blow to the English team but then again one cant blame us for having bad kness. Best of luck to him, although I am pretty sure he wont play the first test but maybe he will be fit for the rest of the two.
The importance of Vaughan can be judged by the fact that Jeffrey Boycott have said that if Vaughan does not play the whole series he would rate Pakistan as favorites to take the series 1-0.
Re: England without Vaughan, Good or Bad?
fkhan: Brits will find some other excuse to whine in case England loses the series :)
Re: England without Vaughan, Good or Bad?
I know that:D
I was thinking about the obvious excuse.
Re: England without Vaughan, Good or Bad?
Batting wise, Vaughan is a liability to the English team ever since gaining the captaincy (except for that one century in the Ashes).
Captaincy wise, it is a huge loss for England, but it shouldn't be an excuse if they perform badly. If they truly are the best team in the world, they are going to have to beat Pakistan without their star players like Australia have done many many times.
Re: England without Vaughan, Good or Bad?
Vaughan's absence is bad news for Pakistan, we may have to dismiss a proper batsman now :(
Re: England without Vaughan, Good or Bad?
^ ditto
Re: England without Vaughan, Good or Bad?
Vaughan will be missed more as a captain. His baatting average is considerably down as a batsman (mind you he still has three centuries as captain, not just one) but he is a class batman when in full flow. Hope he doesnt get fit ;)
Re: England without Vaughan, Good or Bad?
Is he realy unfit or is it just hoax (or some tricks by Vaughan + Fletcher to irritate Inzi + Woolmer) ???? i mean maybe he gets fit in the very last second and walks in after 1st wicket falls in teh 1st Test
Re: England without Vaughan, Good or Bad?
I HOPE HE CAN PLAY AT SOME POINT IN THE SERIES BECAUSE:
[A] IF ENGLAND LOSE THAN THEY WILL START MAKING EXCUSES WITHOUT REALISING THAT IT IS A TEAM SPOR
** LOVE TO SEE AND COMPARE VAUGHAN OUTSMARTING INZMAM IN AND OFF THE FIELD..................WITH HIS STRATEGY AND TACTICAL THINKING........
Re: England without Vaughan, Good or Bad?
^ [C] You can type in lowercase.
Re: England without Vaughan, Good or Bad?
^people don't believe him what he writes in lowercase, so let him try ;)
Vaughn is a key element in this series. Winning or losing aside, he along with Flintoff, Trescothick and Harmison are the exciting elements from England's side. I hope he will play with all of his sharp tricks in his captain's hat.
We don't need injuries or natural disasters to save this series. I say go out with wide chest open and tell Brits............KNEEL!!!!!!!!
Re: England without Vaughan, Good or Bad?
Exactly what I was thinking, well said :k:
