Re: England v Sri Lanka, 1st Investec Test, Lord's
England is going to declare their inning early in the morning or not ?
England 575/9d & 267/8 (69.0 ov)
Sri Lanka 453
England lead by 389 runs with 2 wickets remaining
6.35pm: We're assuming that England will declare overnight and set Sri Lanka 390 to win, which would ensure Ballance his red ink in the scorebook. Regardless of your views on the tactics, that was a superb innings from Ballance - the next highest score was 35 - and it prevented Sri Lanka from taking the initiative after a brilliant middle session in the field. England, fragile as they are, probably didn't want to risk setting a target this evening, though it may well cost them winning the game; even if the bounce is a bit more mischievous and the rough a little more ready on the final day, Sri Lanka will be confident of lasting 90 overs. England will be planting subliminal references to Cardiff 2011 all along the route back to the SL hotel... Join Alex and I again for the fun and games tomorrow. Cheerio
