England v India - 5th Test Oval

Re: England v India - 5th Test Oval

And that's drinks. A hour of mayhem against some pretty woeful bowling. England have added 98 in 11 overs. Until lunch it's over to Alagappan

Re: England v India - 5th Test Oval

India should stop playing cricket outside India...stay home, win all the games, boost ego and then play world cup to win! :( :)

Re: England v India - 5th Test Oval

Eng 486, Joe Root 149*
Eng lead by 338 Runs

116.3
Ashwin to Anderson, OUT, finally the misery ends. A tossed up ball went on with the angle as Anderson jumped forward to block. The bat had to come around the pad though and the umpire thinks it's adjacent. But it didn't seem to be turning enough... impact on leg stump and the ball tracker says it would be missing
JM Anderson lbw b Ashwin 1 (14m 5b 0x4 0x6) SR: 20.00

Re: England v India - 5th Test Oval

12.05 pm England have had the perfect first hour. Joe Root was eight short of a century, hardly looked nervous. Why would he, he's averaging over 100 in this series. Clattered runs at an incredulous clip, helped of course by India's indiscipline - Ishant bowled him off a no-ball, the others were short or strayed on his pads and runs came at a T20 rate. The lead stands at a massive 338. Is this going to be another three-day Test for India? :p

Re: England v India - 5th Test Oval

6/1
lets see if they will be able to enter in 4th day

4.5
Anderson to Vijay, OUT, inswinger this time and he's gone! Lets out a violent cry as a plan comes together (Yes, I stole that from Hannibal). Vijay was jumping across to protect his off stump but this good length ball jags back at him alarmingly. His flick is a little slow in coming down and he has to walk back. India's opening partnership fails again
M Vijay lbw b Anderson 2 (16b 0x4 0x6) SR: 12.50

Re: England v India - 5th Test Oval

India and Pakistan. Trying to outdo each other. Hahaha.

Re: England v India - 5th Test Oval

:smack: Is it ODI match.

6.1
Anderson to Gambhir, OUT, good length ball, tucked into the on side and he sets off for a quick single. An awful single considering there was short midwicket. Woakes raced in, takes aim and hammers down the poles! Gambhir’s uncertain innings ends in woeful fashion. Will he get back into an Indian Test side again? And to make matters worse it’s pelting down now
G Gambhir run out 3 (28m 19b 0x4 0x6) SR: 15.78

Re: England v India - 5th Test Oval

12.50 pm India's top-order has simply refused to raise their game while England's seamers have only looked like they're getting better. We will take an early lunch and the visitors will be fuming from losing one of their batsmen to a needless run out right on the stroke of the weather souring and rain coming down.

Ravi: "England are just ecstatic. See the cheer. They just need another 10 to 15 overs to run through this indian side (unless someone delays it). Only continuous Rain for the next 3 days can save india the test." Not likely. It's already lessened now. India will have to front up to this attack again and display a lot more intent.

Kush: "This is a 'complete' India team. Can't bat, bowl, field or run."

Re: England v India - 5th Test Oval

This is one of Gambhirs strengths. He has a penchant for running out himself or his partner.

Re: England v India - 5th Test Oval

Haha :rotfl:

Re: England v India - 5th Test Oval

Dhoni out for 0. In 1st inning he got a life at 0. Hoping his knocks here won't keep him in the team. A poor keeper poor test captain and 0 batting technique vs fast bowling. Other than that he is a great Test cricketer.

Re: England v India - 5th Test Oval

Wrong. Medicore keeper, average captain and decent but fading batsman. The technique issue is not just Dhoni's problem its sub-continent's problem on seaming wickets. Time to play outside the dusty dead wickets in breezy and damp English wickets more often.

Re: England v India - 5th Test Oval

Not sure where I am wrong. Cause I agree with everything you said. Except for the decent batsman part. I don't think he is a decent batsman in Tests. Lived dangerously. Got more lives than others. Yes he did cash in.

Re: England v India - 5th Test Oval

England won by an innings and 244 runs

7 Number of Tests India have lost by an innings and 200 runs or more. Four of them have come against England, with this innings-and-244-run loss at third on that list. India have lost by bigger margins against Englandin 1974 and against West Indies in 1958.

36 Number of years since India lost three Test series in a row. Over the past eight months, India have been defeated in South Africa, New Zealand and now England. The last time they lost three consecutive series was between 1976-78, going down to England, Australia and then Pakistan.

26 Number of times India have been routed for 100 or less in an innings. The last time India suffered the ignominy was against South Africa at Ahmedabad in April 2008. India have never won a Test after being bowled out for less than 100, but England have won six Tests, Australia four, New Zealand and South Africa two each, while Pakistan have won one from the same circumstances.

134 Number of runs for Virat Kohli in this series, making it the second-lowest aggregate by a top-four batsman having played at least 10 innings. The lowest is also by an Indian, Chandu Sarwate, who scored only 100 runs against Australia in 1947-48.

22.2 Cheteshwar Pujara’s batting average in this series. This is the poorest for an Indian No. 3, over a minimum of five innings in a Test series in England.
97.12 Joe Root’s average in 2014. He has 777 runs, 518 of which have come in the five matches against India to be the top-scorer of the series.

78 Number of years since a team has won the last three Tests of a five-match series after trailing at the end of the first two. England were at the receiving end in the 1936 Ashes, when they led the home side, Australia 2-0. Don Bradman made 810 runs in that series and was instrumental in the turnaround.

5 Number of series in which India have been bowled out for less than 200 five times. The last instance was against England in 1976-77. The most times that India have succumbed for less than 200 during a series is seven, during India’s tour to England in 1959.

177 Number of runs India have gained from extras in this series, exactly as much as Ravindra Jadeja has contributed. Some of India’s top-order batsmen have contributed fewer though - Kohli only managed 134 runs, while Dhawan had 122.

29.2 Number of overs faced by India in their second innings at The Oval, the fewest overs needed to dismiss them in the last six years. India have only been bowled out in fewer overs six times, the least being 17 overs, when India were bundled out for 42 at Lord’s in 1974.

380 Number of wickets for James Anderson in Tests. He is only four away from beating Ian Botham as thehighest wicket-taker for England.

17 Number of dismissals made by MS Dhoni, the most by an Indian keeper against England in a Test series. He had accumulated 16 in 2006 and 13 in 2011 and figures thrice in the top five**
