**England fast bowler Stuart Broad has declared himself fit for Friday’s third one-day international against South Africa in Cape Town.**The 23-year-old injured his shoulder in a practice match and was unavailable for both Twenty20 internationals and the first two one-dayers.
England lead the five-match series 1-0 after Sunday’s win at Centurion.
“The shoulder’s pretty much 100%… and it’s just about pushing for selection now,” Broad told BBC Sport.
"It’s been frustrating on a personal note because you always want to play and when you’re missing matches it’s tough to watch, but it’s been great to see how well the boys have played.
“I don’t think injuries are ever a good thing but it has given me a chance to put a lot of hours in in the gym and get very strong.”
The first one-dayer was wiped out by rain but captain Paul Collingwood inspired the tourists to a fine seven-wicket victory at Centurion to leave England two wins away from a rare series win away from home.
Broad insisted he was undaunted by the possibility of South Africa’s batsmen targeting him in the remaining three one-dayers.
606: DEBATE
How important could Broad’s return be for England
The Nottinghamshire bowler has impressive ODI figures, taking 88 wickets in 55 matches at an average of 26.59, but he has been singled out in the past, as when India’s Yuvraj Singh hoisted him for six sixes in an over at the World Twenty20 in 2007.
“A lot of teams do that to a young bowler, we certainly do that to the opposition - if there’s a young bowler in the side you look to take them on,” he said.
"But that could give me an advantage as well. If they’re looking to take you on and it’s swinging at all, it brings wickets into the game.
“I’ve played nearly 60 one-dayers now and 22 Tests and I’ve had batsmen come hard at me, including in the Ashes this year, so I’ll just have to wait and see how each batsman plays.”
Broad had an interesting Ashes, taking just six wickets across the first three Tests before coming to life with 6-91 at Headingley and an urn-clinching 5-37 at The Oval.
In one-day cricket, his value to the England cause is considerable. According to the official player ratings for bowlers, he is ranked number 15 in the world - the best of all those in the current squad.
Broad would be an ideal candidate to take the place of the inconsistent Sajid Mahmood in England’s line-up while England will also await a fitness bulletin on Graeme Swann - with a view to bringing him into the side as a swap for Adil Rashid.
