**Stand-in one-day captain Paul Collingwood insists there will be no Ashes hangover when England play Ireland in Belfast on Thursday.**Six of England’s 14-man squad featured in the 197-run, series-clinching win over Australia at The Oval on Sunday, while Andrew Strauss has been rested.

But Collingwood said England will not underestimate Ireland’s abilities.

“We have got to get ourselves up for it, simple as that, and put a good performance in,” said Collingwood.

“(Ireland are) a very good side, as we have seen in the past.”

The friendly is a precursor for a busy month of limited overs cricket for England, including two Twenty20 internationals against Australia - the first of which begins on Sunday at Old Trafford - before a seven-match one-day series.

However, Ashes man of the series Strauss will return for the first one-day international at The Oval on 4 September.

England’s Andrew White

“With the workload he has had as captain, he deserves a good break - mentally, more than anything else,” added Collingwood.

The tourists could use the opportunity to give Kent opener Joe Denly his first start at Stormont, while Ravi Bopara will be hoping to recapture his form after he was dropped from the Test side for The Oval.

Meanwhile, Ireland all-rounder Andrew White believes England’s Ashes victory may help the hosts.

“Hopefully after winning the Ashes they will be a bit complacent and we can get one over on them,” said White.

"English sport is renowned for its slip-ups, whether it be in rugby, football or cricket.

“They do have their off-days so we will be targeting Thursday as another historic day for Irish cricket.”

England won the last meeting between the sides in 2006, but by only 38 runs.

Ireland reached the World Cup Super Eights a year later and they have aspirations to join the Test-playing elite.

“If our last two outings against England are anything to go by then we have every chance of causing an upset,” added the 29-year-old White.

"It doesn’t matter what side England put out - it will be very strong.

"The profile of Irish cricket has risen dramatically in the past six or seven years and this game is another step in improving that.

“Because we want to be one of the bigger nations it is a very important game. It is an official one-day international and there are rankings points to go with it.”
