Mushtaq Ahmed retired what, two months ago? He brought Sussex three championship titles aside from remaining in England for six years which worked out in his favor. Now that ECB have decided to keep him in the loop and their next set of future spinners, I think it is a win-win situation. The likes of Ravi Bopara and Monty Panesar, the current lot, will gain some first-hand knowledge from Mushtaq.
The International Cricket Council revealed yesterday that they would write to the England and Wales Cricket Board as a matter of urgency this week to question the appointment of the 38-year-old former Pakistan and Sussex leg-spinner.
The ICC letter, to be written by chief executive Haroon Lorgat in consultation with their Anti-Corruption and Security Unit, will demand to know if the ECB were aware of Mushtaq’s tainted background and took it into account when they made the appointment, which was announced last Thursday.
^ i was reading this article earlier today. Apparently he tripped himself up when questioned about past match fixing allegations, he replied with a quick response i read; so then when and when asked by the journalist how he knew which match he was referring to (apparently the journalist witheld this info). Mushi was left with egg on his face and made a qucik exit. :D
The latest news have sprung up. ICC wants ECB to “monitor” Mushtaq (CricInfo). And what exactly will they be monitoring? Tapping phone calls? Watching survelliance tapes of his hotel room and alerting room service? Sure, let ECB monitor Mushtaq like they monitored their involvement by getting into bed with Sir Allen Stanford (headline of a news press recently). I don’t think this is going to work, neither in the short-term nor in the long-term. Just like how PCB jumped the gun by appointing Malik the head of NCA, ECB did the same. They both have backed out now.
