Engineering at York University (toronto)

I only see three options i.e. Computer, Geomatics and Space engineering. Dont they have anything normal like Mechanical, Civil, Electrical etc?

Plus anybody know how good is their engineering program? How is it considered by the industry etc?

Sincerely,
Captain Lota

They have tons of engeering. what faculty programs are you lookin in?

Its decent, best is to get into a Waterloo electrical eng because that offers co-op program!

co-op program is better than anything w/o co-op! period!

Re: Engineering at York University (toronto)

I STRONGLY recommend co-op. At UofT, downtown, they have (or had back in the mid-90's) the so-called PEY (Professional Experience Year). At Waterloo, their co-op program is second to none.

York's engineering may not be looked on as favorably as say UofT or Waterloo's. What particular branch do you want to go into?

If I remember correctly, Space engineering is actually a computer-science/astrophysics dual specialist. My knowledge is a bit stale, though, since it's been almost a decade since I graduated.

And if you intend to join the workforce, rather than academia, then you can always take advantage of York's well-known business programs. Work them into a dual engineering/business degree. That's a very strong pairing. Trust me...I'm 8 years into my career and every bloody year since I graduated I contemplate an MBA. It's not obvious going in, but once you're in the workforce you’ll see how compartmentalized engineering staff are and how far removed they are from the business development side of things. IMHO, that's where all the really exciting and high-visibility work is done.

Re: Engineering at York University (toronto)

York is very well known for its Business programs. However, its engineering programs are new and still not approved by the ontario assosciation of engineering as they don't meet the academic standard set out by Ontario.
