Engineering And MBA Combo--Does it really work for fine jobs!

Hey guys,
I need little career info. Seeing the job situation in Pakistan at the moment is really frustrating for undergraduates who are about to enter the professional fields.
Right now, I am doing electrical engineering and I realize that gone are the days when electrical engineering was deemed the best profession or envied. There are many engineers who are jobless at the moment(I have got this info from our seniors) or those who are doing jobs are mostly in remote areas(like Saddiqabad etc).
One thing has become crystal clear the sole electrical engineering won’t work now, so I am thinking of doing MBA along with it from LUMS. So what do you people suggest..?? Going LUMS after BS in electrical engineering seems to be pretty silly(after all 9.5 lak for MBA in LUMS is not that attractive at all)..
So should I take a plunge..??
Moreover, I have no intention of going abroad at the moment at least for studies!

I am doing electrical engineering from UET, so at least, this is not a meagre degree after all.

Any comments..????

I am waitingf or them!

dogarsahab, i am an engineer myself (not electrical though) and so is my husband. both of us have masters degrees. i have mine in my own area whereas my husband has 2 masters: one in his area and another in business. from what i have observed, his business masters has helped him much more than his engineering masters. my filed is very specialized, so this case does not apply on me (my masters works really well for me).

i am in the field so i can safely say that, yes, the business degree will compliment your engineering degree. you will considered much more diversified than your peers and you will come across much more interesting job opportunities that you will be capable of doing. LUMS is expensive, so why don't you go for a cheaper better institution.

can't say about the prospects in Pakistan, but in many other countries, a B.Eng. and MBA can be considered as a great asset. That being said, many employers as well as business schools will ask for work experience leading to the MBA.

Personally, I think that much the value from an MBA comes from interactions with colleagues who come from a variety of work settings and offer diverse experiences. So, I've always been a proponent of getting some work experience before the MBA - even if it's just a year or two through internships or similar opportunities.

Also, an MBA is not the only option to complement your Engineering degree... other people I know have gone for qualifications such as PMP, EMC certifications or other shorter management programs through colleges etc.

Re: Engineering And MBA Combo--Does it really work for fine jobs!

^yes--I am doing internships and as a matter of fact, this is the greatest apprehension for me whether I will be admitted at LUMS(I prefer LUMS due to their extreme market value now) because they prefer work experience for MBA.

But you know that once you start working, then leaving a job and starting a MBA is NOT easy at all because you get established in your job and I think leaving it would not be good idea especially if it is a good job!

I am strictly talking about Pakistan's perspective though.

i think u should continue in ur feild and shud do sum thing amazing...
and u knw what u r much better then doctors regarding their career..

Re: Engineering And MBA Combo--Does it really work for fine jobs!

^Hmm..Doing amazing is difficult in fact. Actually I have no intentions of leaving a city for job and for engineering, one would have to go outside.

However, I am looking for good job opportunities even if we forget all things at the moment!
