sambrialian, you talked about “desi” people. go to “des” and listen to all the “bitiching” from doctors over there have to offer. Different times demand different professions. In US, before 2000, CS or EE was in big demand, you graduate and land a job… time has changed. Many jobs have moved overseas hence “you graduate and land a job” is not true anymore.
May be in US the board or institution who “recognizes” you as a professional doctor (USMLE???) is doing a “great job” by limiting the number of doctors (esp coming from foreign countries) so "limited supply keeps high demand and hence high pays).
I agree with Fraudz regarding how much engineers have contributed to the society and they are not acknowledged as much, while a doctor gets all the respect simply be being a doctor. who respects “lawyer”? yeah, by the scale of money they do get some (j/k).
May be you can tell your younger brother about all the options and let him decide what he wants to do.

Also, I suppose in traditional engineering fields such as electrical, civil, etc you would have technicians under you but I'm in Comp eng and we don't have any technicians under us. So, I don't get make fun of anyone and I want to. :(

err, there isnt much difference b/w electronics/electrical engineering and computer engineering... I started working for a company recently, and work under a project engineer who is a CE. Oh and in most programs, CEs get to study some cool courses, such as Digital Signal Processing, Integrated Circuits, Microncotrollers, as sometimes EE programs (to accomodate electrical machines and power electronics) do not offer these incredible courses. How can I explain to you the beauty of a FET which is my new found love! And yes, community college ppl wont be able to compete with you when you graduate, they rarely take all these hard electronics courses (which require you to work your a** off and you need some excellent professors) and mostly stick to easy programming classes. When you graduate and start working in the industry, you will enjoy yourself so much, that im sure you would regret creating this thread.
yeah and some weanie up there decides how much you get paid..
man Engineering is such a waste of years.. i wish i had gotten a business degree instead.. i mean i can bu!!sh!t all u want.. what more does an MBA take?
Lol PA MBA arent as easy as they are made out to be but the major skill you learn is people skills which is different in engineering (logical thinking).
But I would add that MBA's are easier to do then engineering degrees (the only reason the MBAs are limited is because the admissions people have a tight hold on the numbers as selectivity is an important factor in how schools are ranked).
PA well i suppose he did grow up between his undergrad and grad school.
wheras my undergrads grades are nothing to brag about at barely above 3.0 (and that is after getting 4.0s in my junior and senior year.. kinda tells you how well i did in my freshman year). i did finish my MBA with a 3.8 GPA. and my undergrad was in business too, and at an easier university.
But the fact that you think that all an MBA takes is bull****ing skills will not get you in the door at any halfway decent consulting company, investment bank, or even mgmt tracks at a company. the ability to schmooze and BS is critical, but as important as the soft skills are without the hard skills in yer field, you are going no where.
I agree with Fraudia...
You’re just a lot more mature going into your M.B.A. – typically business schools require three to five years or more of full time work experience, and that time window is sufficient for a person to appreciate the realities of the marketplace and intricacies of the working culture. Hence you’re able to make more justifiable decisions about your future career-path… getting an M.B.A. degree being part of it.
In my case both reasons came into play:
1- I had a better aptitude for Management Information Systems then Computer Science
2- I was more practically mature going into the M.B.A. program then I was going into Computer Science for my undergrad.

yar that MBA is for weenies thing was a joke, dont take it seriously...
I mean I wouldnt want to do MBA because I dont have the business aptitude, and for my love for electronics.
