Engagement's you have attended/or had

What was the decor/theme/occasion like for an engagement you have attended?

I am having my mangni soon and im in total charge of the decor, but ive never even been to an engagement before! My MIL says its not formal, but my family wants to do something really nice, its the first engagement/shaadi in our family.

What were the ones you have attended like? was it formal? was it decorated nicely? was the location nice? How was the bride dressed? groom? What was the jewelry of the bride? was there music? lighting? stage decor? etc?f

Re: Engagement's you have attended/or had

Congrats!

And the decor is quite similar to that of a valima. As in subtle and light— in all regards. The clothing, jewelery and makeup. The only thing I'd recommend is that you shouldn't look like a dhulan so don't wear a lenhgha w/ the jewelery/bindya and all that stuff. Keep it simple-ish.

The decor is also light and formal. And music isn't blaring super loud since there isn't any dancing.

Ya thats what i was thinking too, light pale colors, pink happens to be my favorite too. Not sure about how heavy the jora/jewelry/decor of the hall..

Re: Engagement's you have attended/or had

It should be as u like.... as heavy or as light as u want!
I wore a shalwar kameez (from in-laws).. then wore a necklace, earings & tikka... Got ready from depilex. We had a proper big func...

Re: Engagement's you have attended/or had

id say go light wuth everythin .... cuz ull have the weddin mehhdi n the walima for the heavy .... n dont go 4 red

Re: Engagement's you have attended/or had

my cuzin recently got engaged...and i really didnt like it...coz she totally looked like a bride...i think on the engagement girls should look very delicate...coz the bride look should be for the wedding...

for my cozins they had a massive hall...it was too much of a shadi look...

what type of jora did she wear?

Re: Engagement's you have attended/or had

it was a dark green lengha with gold as the accent colour...heavy makeup and jewelery....it looked as if it was her valima..shes only 18

Re: Engagement's you have attended/or had

Ditto!^

go light, and don't wear a ton of jewelery. Think more of a formal party rather than a big wedding-type bash. And if you're going to get your makeup done, ask for light party makeup.

Re: Engagement's you have attended/or had

heyy I'm getting engaged very soon as well.. had the same questions :)

we are having a small function at the house and I am still trying to figure out how to decorate =/

I am wearing pink and blue shalwar kameez with gold kaam.. but nothing extremely heavy or bridal looking..

Re: Engagement's you have attended/or had

hmmmmm! anymore experiences?

Re: Engagement's you have attended/or had

I went to one earlier in the year, the decor wasn't very "in ur face" as it was in a restaurant so nothing was put up bt the bride wore soft pink, nothing heavy (I actually thought it was abit too simple considering what guests were wearing) make up was nice though

Re: Engagement's you have attended/or had

at my engagement, I wore a pink/blue/silver shalwaar kameez. We had it at my house, so the decor was light. We used a lot of candles (tall/short/medium), they were al thick candles, and we put them around in clusters (we used Ivory and White candles only to give a neutral look), and they looked so elegant when they were lit. Try putting large clusters around the house/hall. Place a mirror on the table and put the lit candles on top of it...it looks really elegant. We also placed candle holders with candles in them on the mantle piece (I live in Canada, so we have a fireplace, and the mantle piece is the thing ontop of the fireplace). We also bought square vases (tall/medium/short). Then we bought inexpensive (carnations) pink flowers, and we put them in the vases in a way, where only the top of the flower was sticking out of the vase.

Im going to post pictures within the hour.

Re: Engagement’s you have attended/or had

ok, sorry for the really small pictures. But this is basically what I was talking about. My engagement was held at home, but you can use these ideas at a hall as well, just on a larger scale.

Also, I had my makeup done by a Pakistani makeup artist, and I told her it was for an engagment, so she did more than party makeup, but less than bridal makeup. And I didnt wear my dupatta on my head (even though all my aunts talked about me for 3 weeks after that cause they said I was batameez! - but thats another forum!), and I didnt have an up-do, I left my hair down, but styled, and I only wore earrings and a small khara.

Re: Engagement's you have attended/or had

You go girl^^
I think a dupatta on an engagement can look too dhulan-ish.

Re: Engagement's you have attended/or had

^^LOL...THANKS!!! My sentiments exactly!!! I want to look like a dulhan at my wedding, not on my engagement!!! And regardless of what you do, there are going to be people who talk about you. People talked about me saying that I didnt have my head covered, and other people talked about me saying, I wasnt sitting close enough to my fiance. No one is ever happy, so dont bother trying to make others happy, just make yourself happy, and do what YOU want to do!

Re: Engagement's you have attended/or had

^ very true. I might as well do what i want.. which is a heavy engagement.. who cares what anyone thinks! Im just mostly concerned about what my MIL wants/ or will think..
