I heard from my cousin in pakistan thats now a days it has become a fashion to break ur engagement..!! all of our neighbours family have at least one broken mangni in their families.. in my family we r not doin engagment, my dada, father and uncle donot like it…
i think bacause engagement has no islamic background ppl donot take it serious and break for little reasons..

maybe because people realise they have to get to know each other before taking the serious step of marriage
so engagment are broken after people discover they are not made for each other
and break it even if some people will point fingers at them, because reputation is less important than the happiness in a marriage

I dont know whether its a trend/fashion in Pak to get engaged and then break um off. I personally think getting engaged is just another way of dating a person.

^^ not all people get to date if they are engaged in Pak.
most of the engagments are broken due to family clashes or expactation not being met, they havent done that for us, we have done this .. blah blah.
very few broken due to boy girls own reasons.

it wouldn't suprise me in the least if it was a "fashion" to do that......look at the thread with the girl asking if it's "cool" to have a boyfriend......people over there are dumb like that.
