Okay so I’m getting married at the end of this yr and the engagement is in a couple of months, before the wedding I intend to go to pakistan for the dress. But the problem is that I need an engagement dress.
I was thinkin a churidaar or a shalwaar kameez, now the thing is where in the UK would be the best place to go shopping for the engagement outfit? and what colour do ppl wear at engagements?

well i think u shuld go for a light colour and leave the dark one like red maroon for wedding..

yes babes go for a light color like soft peach baby pink, lavender baby blue.

if it's summer, you can opt for pastel shades as SozanKaar has suggested with gold or silver kaam on it, it can be havy kaam too since the colour will be pale...

order ur engagement dress from pakistan too whens teh engagement ? maybe some designer could mail it to u:) it would also be pretty cost effective compared to what u will get from uk no?

hey for ur engagement outfit i suggest u go for something relatively simple. You could go for a soft color like a soft blue or lavender and have a slightly flaired kameez with azaars. those are the latest im getting made here in pk. Or u could go with chooridars as well.
what one wants is something easily wearable so u could wear it to other wedding functions u attend to as well.
Anything on light jamavar looks amazing. you could have jaal all over the front of teh shirt with a light stoned neck with dabka and stone work on teh neck and sleeves.

It best you see your engagement outfit, rather than order it from pakistan and it doesn't turn out like you want!

i got engaged a few months ago and went shopping in birmingham...bought a light blue lengah for the engagement. cost about £240.00. i think it was a lil overpriced but was just rite for the occasion.....skirt and top were full of kaam, and the duputa had a medium sized border...matched it with blue and silver jewelry.
i think you should try and go for lighter/softer colours for the engagement....but then again go out and try on a few diff outfits and see wot looks best.

just read this thread. My advice to you for shopping for an engagement outfit is to go to southall in london and shop on the broadway. I know it is a trek from wales, however it will be worth it. I got engaged in the summer 2008 but in pakistan however on my firends engagment this december just gone we shopped in many places. we treked to manchester, it was not brilliant, birmingham was good but far too expensive in comparison to southall, which was cheaper. I would recommend go for a light colour and be simplistic. My friend wore a simple sharara in pale blue with a hint of pink work, very simplistic and matching fake set jewelery with blue beads and it was silver as this matched the kadia on the outfit. She had a simple make-up and me and her friends did her hair in curls and half-up. we brought the sharar for a hundred pounds, you just need to shop up and down the road in all shops and come back for the best bargain. It is a day trip but you can get your ideal dress at a bargain.
