PS, sadly yes, I am a diamond aficionado. and that ring sounds GORGEOUS. i love asschers and daniel ks, i really really wanted a pink diamond but u know how extremely pricey those are, many places dont even carry them. and with my budget i knew if i really wanted a pink one it would have a very small carat weight. so i decided to go with the 1.7 ct asscher and love it. you must post the pic if you find it. please?

i think the rule is 2 months salary, but dont really know who follows that i know my husband didnt but that will be made up in the wedding band 
i went to tiffany’s today, i almost felt like buying a new engagement ring, ive now fell in love with round brilliants in addition to asschers.

and if i do get that ring i wont be able to wear it with my engagement ring. the engagement ring i have right now is such a statement in itself that if i wanna wear the band with it, id have to get something made very specific to it and none of tiffanys wedding bands were doing justice to the engagement ring. sighs… dont know when ill get the band.

The ring I have right now cannot be worn with a band...its design would look wierd with a band. Im going to get a bridal set later and cant wait! Im hoping to get a solitaire - round this time and want two pave microbands on either side of it. Ive always wanted something like that. I adore the one I have right now so I will wait before I go for the next! I have a feeling though that Ill be designing my own.

that sounds brilliant. when i was getting my engagement ring, my aunt gave me the idea of having a round solitaire with two micropave bands on either side of the ring. but at that time i was engulfed in purchasing an asscher but my husband and i both agree that my upgrade will be to a round, theres no other stone that has more brilliance than the round and today at tiffanys i just fell in love with it, they were super sparkly. cant wait! good luck with designing ur own, it definitely holds more meaning when u design ur own rather than just go and buy something from a jeweler.
I recently got engaged and I always wanted a princess cut but I got a round brilliant and it's absolutely stunning mA! It has tiny diamonds along the band, like the pic sumorani posted earlier. It's platinum and I would actually say platinum is better for wearing all the time because white gold is regular gold covered with another metal (chromium I think but I'm not sure) and it wears off over time so you'll need to go in every few years to maintain the shine and look.
I think the rule is three months salary but don't know how many people follow that rule since rings are insanely expensive. We all want a big diamond but even if it's big you don't want it to have flaws or not be clear, if you're not going for the pretty exotic colors that is.

psquared, that's a gorgeous ring- yellow diamond and asscher? its like heaven! but mA, it sounds like your current ring (and fiancé) make you much happier and that's worth so much more! :)
sumo, i have a friend with a 1.2 ct round solitaire, mounted on a knife-edge tiffany band and she does wear two thinner, diamond studded wedding bands with it, one on either side of it, and wowzers!!! that look is beautiful. its so incredibly sparkly.
