My engagement pics will be taken this week and I’m torn on what to wear.
Fiance will be wearing a grey suit. Initially I was set on wearing desi clothing. I have a purple salwar kameez with gold work (fiance loves it) that was in the “running”. There’s also a yellow/brown anarkali outfit that I’m considering too.
But now…I don’t know if I should just wear a simple, classic Western outfit (ie. black dress?). B/C all my outfits during the wedding day is obviously desi. I’m thinking that if I wore a short black dress with black heels…then fiance can wear the grey suit. And I can have him wear like a purple or another color bright shirt with a matching tie.
The pics will be taken in the morning at the hotel we’re getting married in…so we’ll have both outdoor and indoor pics.
I'd go desi OR get something that's a bit more special than a black dress if you decide to go "American."
ha....I changed it to "western". Anyway.....what do you mean more "special"? Something more formal? Or bold colored? Should I stick to solid colored dress (will this photograph better than prints)?
I think a solid color is fine, but yeah, something bold (especially since the shoot is in spring), and maybe with some frill or whatever suits your style. Something unique.
I say go western, I see a bajillion engagement pics, and I find that the ones with desi outfits look so similar to the wedding stuff, that it's just like the same thing twice. Also, it gives you a chance to show off a difference facet of your style.
I attend these bridal workshops occasionally, and the photographer (Garima Singh Photography) always says, try something OTHER than an LBD, because it's tooooo overdone and too simple. She says if you're gonna go LBD, use accessories to jazz it up, like a scarf, or sexy pumps. Choose a CLASSIC CUT dress in shades of navy, grey, or red, as SGC suggests, for something contemporary and not black. Don't go with something so in fashion that it's gonna be out of style by next spring. Basically, use your "investment pieces"
Thanks for the responses! :) I'm leaning toward "western" right now. I'll go through my closet (and online shops!) tomorrow and see what I find that's non-black. :)
go to Polyvore and browse through the hundreds of style boards they have there to get ideas. or make your own with their images! they have link backs to shops where you can buy all of the items too.
