Need advice guppies: …When does one receive the engagement outfit that the boy’s side provide?? Is it commonly given in advance or the day off the actual event?? I am confused because what if alterations have to be made to it so that it fits properly???
My engagement is a little more than two weeks away and my family and I are so clueless about this whole process. Even though my fiance-to-be and I are having a love marriage and have a wonderful understanding with each other, he is kinda clueless about these sort of details as well. My mother and I feel like it is awkward and kinda rude to ask his mother (my future saas!) about this …because what if they are not even planning on providing me with an engagement outfit.

1st of all congrats on ur upcoming engagement!!
As far as the engagement outfit is concerned every family does things differently. There's no hard and fast rule about how far in advance its given. For example when my friend got engaged last yr her fiance's family gave her really heavy fancy loose material which she had stitched to her measurements and they paid for it. Why don't u get ur fiance to b to ask his mother casually about whether or not they are going to give u a suit and when would be the best time to give it? I can understand ur hesitation in asking his mother directly but I'm sure he there's no harm in him asking.

I did as you said and my fiance to be found out that they are having an engagement outfit for me stitched. So yay! However, he could not get any definite information about when the outfit will be given to me. Apparently it is still getting stitched and needs to be sent over here from Pakistan (I live in the US).
This makes me a bit nervous about the fitting. I have never had anything made for me that has not had to be altered in some way. :( I am an extremely petite girl and I guess darzi's can't really believe that my measurements could really be so tiny so there is ALWAYS something that is too loose! >:( I guess there is nothing I can do about this except wait and see...... unless someone has any last minute tailoring advice?????

Well, if they are getting one made for you, you can just wait and watch. You can also make an outfit for yourself just in case, the one they are bringing would need major alterations (God Forbid!) You can easily take it as a jehaiz outfit if you don’t get to wear it on your engagement.

well i think they will probably hand it over to u as soon as they get it esp since they haven't taken any measurements of u for the suit. if not u could always get ur fiance 2b to speak to his mum again lol. just get him to suggest to her that they should give it to u asap so u can try it on and have it altered if u need to and get some ideas for hair, makeup, jewellery etc. good luck!

Haha...yea my fiace to be is trying hard to find out more info. Questioning his sister and mom without trying to seem too obvious.
and omg...only 2 weeks left EXACTLY. And still no clue about the outfit...and hence no ideas for hair, and makeup, etc. This is definitely the downside of having this event happen so fast!
Mahismart- good idea... just incase the outfit does not fit ....I should have a back-up outfit to wear and just take their outfit as jehaiz. It would be awful to not have anything new to wear for my own engagement :( So you are right...its better to play it safe. I think I will order an outfit online... there are no desi shops in the area where I live. I have read a HORRID thread about bargello.com on this forum and plan to stay far far far away from that site.

There is a dark green peshwaaz with gold kaam on it. I called them up and was happy that someone actually picked up so that I could talk to them directly. They said that if I put in an order within 2 days, they will be able to ship me the outfit within 5 days. It will be altered to my exact measurements. THe lady was very kind and understanding towards my situation.
I thought the dark green would be appropriate since it is a december engagement. My mother put in the order after talking to the lady directly herself. With less than 2 weeks, fast moves had to be made!
I have to figure out how to upload an image onto here..so that i can show you the dress...
