I’m getting engaged inshallah end of May in London.
Really need your help! I want a nice Pakistani style outfit but I don’t know where to go in order to find a nice one with a reasonable price. Which shops or areas are worth going too? I live near Southall and everything there is tacky!
Also I don’t want to order online as I don’t trust anyone to do a good job.
Re: Engagement in May where to find outfit in UK?!!!
Tahiya! ;-) Congrats hun.
Try Gul's style in Illford for Pakistani wear. His bridals are VERY expensive, I am not too sure about engagement wear.
Green Street is very much like southall I think, but a bit more expensive. Green street is good for lose kapra.
Try online? Or is that too risky?? I'm getting my clothes from a designer based in pakistan...she charges £40 for delivery to the UK and if you tell her your budget she will work within that. I'll let you know how mine turns out
I'll do some more research and get back to you. xxxx
Re: Engagement in May where to find outfit in UK?!!!
I HATE Gul's style. The man is a fool.
He only occasional delivers good pieces to clients. My friend Amna had hers made from him, it was ok. She is a stunning girl anyway combined with kyle's jewellery and amazing make up she looked gorgeous.. but i wouldn't have picked those clothes for her.
Gul's style has had the same pieces for the past few years, i wetnt to the bridal show this year , last year and year before his work is the same. I remember seeing the red dress now turned white now turned green in his shop several times!!
DON'T GO HERE!! he is just pakistani nothing pakistani about him!!!
Tahiya, the thing you need to remember is there is no 'pakistani' or 'indian' kaam. There are specific styles though, Pakistani think long loose fitted flowy , Indian more short and fitted.
Go shopping around everywhere , when you find something you like , i.e an anarkali which is short ask them to remake in the longer version. Every shop can adapt and re-make you things!!

Thanks Sonia
My aim is to visit Southall and Green Street/Ilford Lane first to get an idea of colours etc. I have heard that Gul is a total rip off etc becuase I'm on a tight budget of £250 as it's only going to be a small ceremony and I don't want to fork out thousands of pounds on a simple engagement outfit.
I really like the whole Manish Malhotra flowly anarkali style with his velvet borders but I'm not sure if any of the shops in the UK can do this? Some people are saying go to Mongas and get something designed but I'm a bit apprehensive...
I will definitely keep you guys all posted on how my shopping trip turns out Inshallah.

Monga's, £250...? i don't even think they do non bridal ( i.e not a lengha or dress) i detest their quality, and the attitude in the shop! i went there and i was shocked at how its a factory really!! i almost fell down the stairs firstly :( its not nice!
there is a shop OMEGA i think is the name, i bought a ready made suit for my SIL Nikkah, it was very very nice and i got it for £130 , and it was really done up. they put on the sleeves for me as it was sleevless but i wanted long sleeves which they had to purchase material for to do , he didn't charge me extra as i said to him it was for a nikkah!
He was a reasonable guy, and he was reducing prices to people's budgets accordingly!

Lol for some reason people are saying that there design work in Mongas is not bad even though I still think there stuff is slightly tacky. I guess I will only know once I have had a proper look around!

Also whereabouts is RDC on Ilford Lane?
Re: Engagement in May where to find outfit in UK?!!!
Try Tooting, Saiqas has good stuff, also Khushbu up the road from Saiqas and theirs another pakistani one a bit further up from Khushbu can't remember the name
Re: Engagement in May where to find outfit in UK?!!!
Hey- Go to Birmingham...
If you want something Pakistani-
Try ZFS on Stratford Road- They get all their stuff from Karachi- But u need to go now as they will order in for you and Custom make...
Their stuff is very classy in terms of its very up to date with the Pakistani look...
Ask to see some of their stuff behind too... (God knows y these shops hide things..Lol)
But for the general indian look..
Just go on to ladypool road..
Desi Girl is new on that road and you will find something nice there...
BUT if you go to ALUM ROCK will you just need to walk up and down and find something very reasonable..
But its all very indian looking (like VERY BLING Borderline Tacky.. lol..
But no harm taking a look..
I would say bham is defo better than southall/wembly etc...

I had an outfit made from Gul Mohar just over a year ago and i was happy with my order.
I haven't really brought an anything from RDC yet but i went there a few weeks ago and they did have some really nice outfits.
