Engagement ceremony dress

Hi all,

What types of colors should be worn on an engagement? I can’t decide between Dark shades vs. more pastel shades. I def do not want to wear red. Any ideas?

I didn't want to wear red because I wasn't sure if thats the colour I wanted to wear for the wedding as well. I wore a tea pink on my nikah because I knew I wouldn't be wearing it on the others days. I think if girls opt out of red, then traditionally lighter and pastel shades are very popular. But I think dark colours if thats what you like, look just as nice. Do you have something in mind?

^ Yea I think its too early to wear red lol. I was thinking of that color too, or even a champaign or white shade. I even thought of a light grey maybe with dull gold work done on it or antique silver work. Ahhh this is so confusing!

It is really your personal choice or the In-laws if they are choosing the outfit. I have seen brides opt for everything available including:

  • Trendy colourful formals:

  • Simple lehngas:

  • Pishwases in muted colours:

If you ask me, I really don’t have a colour preference. Anything that looks good but I would certainly opt for kaanch ki chooriyan and a delicate tikka.

Go for a color you will not be wearing on any other day so you have different looks for pictures.

My sister wore dark pink on her nikah...white on her nikah party (we have a small party in our family if the nikah will be extended for a few months)...she is wearing my mom's valima gharara on her mehndi, blood red/purple on her wedding and lavendar on her valima.

Thanks everyone. I think I am going to stick to pastel/neutral colors. If anything I can add a dark accent. Lets see how it turns out!

I've seen peach, ferozi, pista green, white/ivory, grey/silver, tea pink, gold, etc. Pastels seem to be popular.

I wore a peach jamevar shalwar kameez (can also be worn with a churidaar)! The kaam was really delicate in gold and silver. A gift from my MIL.
